Anything else I can do re. fraudulent gas engineer?

Hi,
I've not posted in here before but cannot think of who I could ask for advice;
I discovered today that the guy who installed our new Vaillant boiler a couple of weeks ago, was not, at the time (or currently) registered on the gas safe register, has a bogus VAT registration number and is not a Vaillant-approved engineer as claimed. I am also assuming the boiler is probably stolen - I have the serial number (well, I would need to check it as the guy himself wrote it down on the certificate).
I have reported him as an illegal gas engineer through the gas safety site, spoken to Vaillant about his claim to have been approved by them and intend to speak to HMRC tomorrow re. the invalid VAT reg. number.
The guy who I've arranged to come round to check the boiler, do a powerflush, etc reckons he'll just get a fine but I have no idea how much this could be (I fear it'll be some measly amount) or who'd impose it but I'm so angry to think he'll just carry on operating in the same way and escape pretty much unscathed. To anyone who has any experience in matters like these - is this likely to be the case and is there anything else I could do?
Also, I checked on the Companies House site and his business is listed and next to the status, it says "Active - proposal to strike off". Can someone please tell me exactly what this means?
Many thanks.

It means that he hasn't filed any of the returns needed by companies house. After several warnings they will simply strike off the company from the register..... which means the company will no longer exist.If you feel my comments are helpful then I'd love it if you 'Thanked' me!0

Did it not occur to you to check his gas credentials via gas safe before you employed him? Or was it that he was nice and cheap?0

It must be the 'engineer' who said he could beat the quote we gave to a customer by £900 !! -0

I understand where the OP is coming from - you don't always think to check these things until you begin wondering why this or that wasn't done after you have had the installation. So don't be too hard on OP.
What i am interested in is what made the OP suspect the installer and check?0 -
Trading Standards?
Police?
Rogue Traders?
Local paper? (don't get done for libel though!)0
