My cat's got a loose fang!

Noticed something from her mouth yesterday but she wouldn't let me look and I thought it was a bit of dribble. She's had no trouble eating not even hard cat crunchies. But she's suffered from gingivitis since she was a kitten and has already had a few teeth removed.
Anyway while I was stroking her this morning I noticed one of her bottom fangs sticking out past her lip!
So now we are sitting waiting to see the V.E.T. She's already had a wee in her carrier on the way here, so not a good start having to apologise for a stinky cat!

Hope she's doing okay. Any update?
It could have been far worse though, could have been a number 2 rather than a wee in the carrier - have you ever tried driving with your head hanging out of the car window just so you can breathe? (One of mine always expresses his opinion of travelling in a carrier in a car with a number 2 - in the middle of winter when it's heaving down and your choice is drown with windows open or suffocate with windows closed - not fun!!)0 -
My Mr Mog only has 1 left.. and 2 teeny tiny teeth .. he hasn't another tooth in his head.. yet he eats like all 3 bears and Goldilocks too.
The one bonus is his 'presents' usually come home alive!

Thanks for your posts and yup – the tooth needs to come out! They reckon it will cost over £250  !!!
It's the right fang on the bottom jaw which been broken, but to remove it they need to cut into the gum to reveal the bone. Unfortunately, by going in this way, there is a risk the jaw bone may break as it is so delicate. But the vet was reassuring and said this was quite rare but needed to warn me just in case.
Tizerbelle – thank goodness I've never had the number 2 scenario! I can only imagine what it must be like based on what they produce in the litter tray! Unfortunately, unlike children, you can't really say to animals 'have you been' before going anywhere in the car!
Pigpen – Mr Mog is lovely! Beaumont loves her food too – I wish I had her metabolism, eating like it's going to be her last meal, sleeping all day and doing as little physical exercise as possible.

Oh I sympathise with this, my wee girl is "unwell" - at BOTH ends:eek: - every time she goes in the car.
I've now got to the point that she gets an old towel in the bottom her carrier which is swiftly removed, bagged and binned as soon as we get there - and the same on the way home.
I had hoped she'd grow out of it but no signs yet (just turned 3).
Luckily my boy just howls (and then gets "stage fright" when we get there).
Sorry to hear about the fang - poor wee soul, fingers crossed everything goes OK.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

MamaCat - they are expensive luxuries at times aren't they!! Hope your insurance will cover it. She must feel pretty sore and p'd off at the mo.
Pigpen - Mr Mog is lovely. Although I'm not sure whether live presents is a good thing.
Demon cat doesn't have his full complement of teeth - when he went in, we (vet and I) thought he was going to have to have all his pegs removed - when she called me after the op, vet was really chuffed - we managed to save some teeth. Which one's I asked. All 4 fangs!! I wasn't entirely grateful - he's called Demon Cat for a reason - schizophrenic psycho cat with an evil streak - nice as pie one second, the next he's sinking teeth into people/dogs for no reason other than he's in a bit of a mood. Vet has had more dealings with him since and has apologised for being so remiss as to leave the fangs in and said she would understand if I sued her for negligence0 -
Well, girl-cat has just had her last bowl of crunchies before going on starvation for the evening before the op tomorrow. No water after 7am either.
She seems fairly happy, eaten well, had a hissing fight with boy-cat and is now sitting on the sofa purring and having a cuddle with me.
I've checked the insurance and of course my luck, it's not covered. Partly because dental care is not something they will generally cover anyway, but mainly because she's had previous teeth issues before we took the policy out.:wave:A highly active brain needs feeding often0 -
My Misty cat, who passed away in Feb aged 17, had both of her top two fangs taken out by the vet when she was about 11. She coped perfectly well for her remaining years, no problems eating wet or dried food
I guess I am lucky, as my cats have never had any accidents in their carriers! But I now need to go and find lots of wood to touch :rotfl:0 -

Oh, I had that once when I was about 17 - my boyfriend's cat had sliced himself open on razor wire and we had to drive miles to find a vet prepared to open up on a Bank Holiday weekend Saturday. They didn't have a cat carrier, so I had to hold him on my lap.
That animal deposited everything over me. I walked in that vet's surgery covered in poo, wee, blood, fur, grass clippings, dead leaves and cobwebs from where I had to climb over a fence and under a shed to retrieve him.
Surprisingly enough, my boyfriend didn't want me to go back to his parents' house and drove me straight home after that. My mother didn't even bat and eyelid, just sniffed said 'and what cat have you been rescuing now?'.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
OK it's 7am, boy-cat has been fed, water has been picked up and Beaumont is hugely miffed she's not getting any breakfast!
She's tried sulking, hissing, staring me out, being under my feet and snuggling up to me. Now she's got big sad eyes. Sorry Flo but I won't/ can't budge on this one!
As she's done her business this morning, at least my car won't smell (I used my Mum's yesterday hehe)!
Loved your story Jojo, hope the cat was okay.:wave:A highly active brain needs feeding often0
