Bid tv are they just a big scam?

I placed my first ever order with bid tv via their website 2 weeks ago. The auctions were not all that simple to understand and there was also no way to keep track on your account as to what the heck you were currently bidding on you just bid and once youve left the page thats it unless you can trawl through the site and find the item page again.

Anyway I won a torino food mixer for a total with P&P of £78.98. They took the money from my credit card and I got a 'Congratulations you won this item' email from them on the 18/07/2011 and a 'your item has been dispatched email' on 19/07/2011.

The item did not arrive and today I log in to my email to find a message from bid tv saying 'Bid tv has received your returned item - torino food mixer'. I thought hang on how can I return an item that ive not even received?!

I called customer services (which cost me £1!!!) and was told oh the courier must have returned it maybe the package was damaged. I asked 'well can you send me another one?' bid tv reply 'no you will get a refund we have no stock left to send you a replacement' Bid tv still have tons of these food mixers up for sale on their website, how can they have no stock and still be selling them - very dishonest company!

Ive never ever had anything like this happen before, plus the woman on the phone was pretty sketchy about wether or not they will be refunding my postage. This is my first and last order with bid tv!

Im relieved that you've had good experiences with them, as ive never ordered from them before and the whole situation seemed so dodgey plus the unhelpful woman I spoke to not being able to confirm wether or not they will be refunding the postage I paid. Hopefully this means I will get my money back soon or if im lucky the food mixer that I wanted!

They do have some brillinat bargains but I wouldnt buy from them simply because of their telephone charges and their post and packing charges.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Fixed that for you, it makes sense now.

Add the telephone charge and the p&p charge to the price they advertise for the product - if it's still a bargain (which it usually is) then buy it.

It's what you pay in the end that counts, not how it's split down between price quoted and other charges.

I remember watching one of these channels when they had £1 auctions, the presenter kept hinting the next item would be going to drop to a £1 and it was some really cheap looking pendant, the price came up at £200 or something similar and they all got sold within a few seconds before the price dropped to anything, the presenters face dropped and he kept looking over the camera at someone or other then announced everyone shouldn't have bid so fast :D so they where going to send them out at £1 which was pretty lucky as i doubt anyone would have paid for them.

I occasionaly watch these channels purely for entertainment, and a couple of months ago price-drop tv were flogging a mobile phone. It must have been a genuine bargain because about 20 seconds after the phone lines opened, they actualy crashed on account of the number of people trying to get through.

Actually, we've had some really good stuff from them - in particular, we bought some saucepans and, later, a casserole dish and then a slow cooker from them and they have been excellent - certainly worth more than we paid even with the p&p etc. Everyone spoke highly of the bales of towels they used to sell - haven't seen them for ages, though.
They obviously sell some junk on there as well but then, as in all retail outlets, you need to pick and choose. One person's junk is another's star buy!

Bid TV is not a con but they tend to be expensive. I think they just buy up cheap stock that the manufactures can’t shift and sell it to bored housewives that never get out.
    Lets not use quidco
  • Still no refund from Bid TV and as it turns out I am being scammed by them to some extent.

I decided that seeing as bid tv are unable to send me a replacement as they are 'out of stock' (even though they still have loads of these mixers listed on their site) I would buy the same mixer from ebay from a seller called 'ocean_treetrading'. I paid £8 more than I paid for the item on bid tv even though it is listed on ebay as having a damaged box as I figured well £8 isnt too much extra and I really dont want to deal with bid tv again as their service was so poor and they fibbed to me about the item being out of stock.

How wrong am I! When I got my paypal reciept it turns out that I am being billed by 'Sit up ltd' and a quick google confirms that the same company as bid tv (sit up ltd) own 'ocean tree trading'. So bid tv who told me that the courier couldnt deliver me my mixer because 'the box was damaged' have just sold me the same mixer with the damaged box on ebay for £8 more than I was charged on their own site for one in perfect condition!

Now bid tv have my origianl £80 which they still havnt refunded and the £88 I just paid on ebay for a replacement. Im feeling like a very unlucky lady :(
