if you get this moths PCW - vol 30 n3, then it has Paragon hard disk manager 6, this should do what you want as well.

Plus either last month or the month before that one of either PCpro or PCplus or even PCW have all three delivered and can't remember which one, but that had Acronis True Image not sure of version, but again should backup etc, you might even be able to get it from the sites download area

Brilliant, thanks for that I downloaded the full copy of Paragon disk copy 8 here:

They emailed me the serial for the full copy right away, thanks for the tip, now to find a good priced drive.

It does mean that you have to go through the registration process again but that only takes a few minutes. There is a file somewhere which stores the registration data and I have read that you can simply copy that file to the same folder in your newly installed set up and bypass the re registration. Does anyone know the name of this file and where Windows stores it?

wpa.bak and wpa.wbl in the Windows System32 folder....replace the ones from the new instalation with the saved ones from the old ...but it won't work if the hardware has changed much..

I would like to upgrade my 80gb 2.5 drive but upgrading to 120gb is not really worth it. I can’t find a 2.5 inch drive bigger than 120gb. If anyone knows a manufacturer who makes one please let me know. I would consider buying one if I can get at least 160gb. 5400 speed would be ok though faster would be better of course.

this is 5400 160gb, bit pricy though.

edit: this is better price 160gb 2.5 drive:

Quick question, I have the drive for my laptop and softeware and USB enclosure but before I copy the old drive onto the new drive (or plug the enclosure in) do I need to format it or does the software take care of that. I'm not sure where to start?

    I'm having peoblems.... help

Put it in the enclosure plugged it in but paragon is saying it is 127.9 GB instead of 160 GB.

I'm not sure what to do next.

I have a Toshiba Satellite P10-304 and have flashed the latest BIOS (27/04/06) although system information reports it as 28/12/04 ??

There are different ways of measuring disk sizes that causes some confusion though that difference is a bit odd.

Has the disk been partitioned? Maybe paragon is reporting the size of a partition and not the entire disk.

Assuming that you do not require any of the data on the disk, format it and then see how big it is.

I'm a bit lost what to do, when I try to partition it, again it only shows the max size as 128GB.

    There are no current partitions.

The BIOS of your Tosh may only be able to see up to 128GB Drives - I am not def sure on that - can you try the enclosure attached to another pc/laptop ?

Or can you fit the disk and look in the Tosh's BIOS for the reported size ?

Have you looked at it under Manage?

Open “Windows Explorer”, right click “My Computer” and select “Manage”

Open “Storage” and see what shows under “Disk Management”

That will show you any partitions.

If you find a "hidden partition" it may be the Toshiba restore/utils - Would be a good idea to copy that over too
