Orange mobile help

My wife has been the victim of a crime and the local police are holding her mobile as evidence.
I have contacted Orange about getting a replacement SIM card for her monthly contract number with the intention of picking up a cheap pay as you go handset to be doing with in the mean time.
Orange said it would be no problem but the sim card that the police have will be blocked and wiped.
Anybody got any other ideas without going for the like of a Giff Gaff sim?

What exactly is the problem with having the old sim wiped? In any event, not sure how they could do this if it is out of the old handset.

Get the police to do that for you and get the replacement Orange sim.

Also, make sure you back up your contacts on a PC or elsewhere next time if you have not done so already.

I think what they mean is as soon as they issue a new sim with the same mobile number the old sim is deactivated (you can't have 2 sims with the same number) and it won't work any more. Hence the info on is some times made inaccessible.
