Hi,
A few months ago I bought a purse from a boutique in a town several hundred miles away from where I live.
Unfortunately the quality of the item is less than expected and as it was a lot of money I have requested a replacement by contacting the manufacturer via the web. The company has so far corresponded with me and asked me to return it to the boutique.
They are not interested and say I should deal directly with the manufacturer, also as stated the boutique is miles away.
The manufacturer is US based, although the customer service office appears to be somewhere in Europe. Should this have any bearing on my statutory rights? The company has at lease one shop in London I could return it to, which I have suggested but I haven't heard back.
I would have thought that I should deal with the manufacturer on this, and they should replace it. (They have agreed it's not up to standard as I have sent them photos and copies of the receipt).
I look forward to your thoughts, and advice.
Thanks

Your contract is with the company who sold you the purse and not the manufacturer. You need to take this up with them, by phone, email or registered letter if to far to travel.0

It's between you and the boutique. 'A few months' is probably too long to reasonably reject the goods. Maybe flog it on t'internet and accept you'll be losing a part of the value in doing so0

OP, the people who sold the thing to you cannot just decide to not be interested.
They are responsible for the quality of the product you bought from them.
If you decide that it really is too inconvenient for you to deal with the seller, then your options are very limited.
Paddyrg has made a good suggestion.
You can of course follow up your idea with the manufacturer, but they have no obligation to help you unless you have some sort of guarantee from them.0
