Where can I get Ebly?

Hi

Can anyone help me find where I can buy some Ebly?

I have run out and it seems all of my local supermarkets no longer stock it.

(It is a grain similar to rice and a bit like pearl barley).

Many thanks

    Hi Donna

I don't know if you can still buy Ebly in supermarkets. It's still sold in 5KG catering packs, and you need to call Masterfoods' customer service department to find out where your nearest catering retailer is. (I guess you could also ask them where it sells as a retail product).

Their phone number is 01664 415415

If you find it let me know! I get people at work to bring it back for me from France (I have a few french girls working for me) so when they have room after visiting family or being on holiday they bring me some back thankfully! I haven't found anything nearly as good or easy in the UK since my Asda stopped stocking it years ago! :'(

I have substitued pearl barley for the ebly in the salad I am making for a party tonight and it is a very acceptable alternative.

I am going to try the health food shops next week and see if they have ebly.

I bought it in Tescos a few weeks ago. Most of the supermarkets stock it. Tesco usually have it near the rice, but on a high shelf, along with the sort of speciality rices and things.

    Hi Tawnyowls

None of the supermarkets stock it by us, but we don't have a Tesco's. When I have searched on the Tesco's website it doesn't show as well!

My husband works near a Tesco's so I'll get him to try there.

    Thanks

No, it's not showing on the Sainsbury's or Asda sites either. However, on the Ebly site, it says it's available from the major supermarkets: http://www.ebly.co.uk/an/indexfra.htm.

It looks as if durum wheat (which Ebly is; checked on my box) is also known as bulghur wheat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulgur), and Sainsbury's do their own label version of that.

    Hi

Bulghur wheat is something quite different to ebly. I have checked in our local Sainsbury's and they definately don't do ebly any more.

I don't know why they all seemed to have stopped selling it. I will try the health food shops and post it on here if I have any luck!

Our local Jack Fulton's had some in on saturday at 39p a box. Not sure if they are limited to this neck of the woods or are national though.

    Hi all

I have had a reply from Masterfoods who make ebly and they have discontinued it!

For anyone who likes it and can get it, I would stock up asap!

I used to buy Ebly from Tesco until I realised how like barley it was. Barley is much cheaper anyway so that's what I use now.
