To paraphrase something I read earlier: "You don't support someone shot dead in London by nicking stuff in Birmingham":(

However: do those of us who need to, or might need to, have any sort of plan in place in case something does kick off? Either:

what the Americans term a "bug out bag" that you can grab on your way out of the door or - thinking of that poor girl jumping out of her flat

something stored away from your house that has all the info you need to make claims, bank account details, family contacts, spare meds...

may I direct everybody to Riot Protection Old Style? Ta!

My Dd has just been on the phone she is planning to go into Manchester tomorrow night for a meal but says she will only go if there are no riots -what the hell is going on?

According to this no riots in Manchester:

Jediteacher hope your little man is doing ok now and hope gailey doing ok but we haven't sen her around for a while so looks like it might be frantic in their house.

Thanks stiltwalker. We're still sorting things out with my little man. He's on four types of medication at the moment and things seem a little better. Still heartwrenching to see him in pain after a feed but it does not last as long now.

I'm getting really fed up with all the excuses people are finding for these riots - there is no excuse. I was raised in a single parent family, with a parent on benefits and as some thought no real prospects. Did I riot? Did I loot? No, I got up off my a*se and worked my way through university and got a decent job. I did this without a grant! No one helped me I did all by myself. It disgusts me that people are using these excuses for this level of violence - people's lives are being destroyed through no fault of their own. I only hope that this nampy pamby attitide towards law breakers of all ages stops and we see some serious consequences happening to those who are causing the trouble. Words cannot describe how angry I am feeling at the moment.

I am actually a Londoner born and breed but moved when I went to university and know most of these areas really well. I also fear for my friends that are in The Met and their families.

Anyway, enough of my rant I do have some good news.

I filled in a form at the local SureStart Centre that got put into a raffle and I won!:j I've never ever won a thing in my life. So, tomorrow I go and pick up my prize. It's nothing to grand - £25 voucher for Morrisons. This will come in very handy.

Can you try cutting and pasting the recipe into a Word doc and then printing?
If I could thank you a hundred times I would :T:T I'm just listening to a great youth worker on the news. You'd have loved his total debunking of all the rubbish being spouted by the apologists for the rioters.

Thanks Churchie. I know how much you are being affected by this. Really thinking of you and yours my love.

Thank you both. Maybe it's time I lit one.

The main news sites don't mention the part of East London that used to be Essex. There were outbreaks of wanton damage and arson in Chingford, East Ham, Ilford and Barking. My grandchildren live on an estate not far from where an empty pub was blazing last night. The town centre was closed off yesterday afternoon and evening. DS1 and his girlfriend, in South London, watched her workplace being trashed on Sky news live. I'm concerned that the riots will move to the West End, where DS works. They got as far as Notting Hill last night, raided a prestigious restaurant and attacked the diners, demanding jewellery and mobile phones.

There is a silver lining in all this, as various groups of people are getting together to clear up the mess and they are finding a common purpose. Maybe it will encourage dialogue between them and they will work together to strengthen their communities.

I do hope your ds and his girlfriend stay safe! I really hope they don't get to the west end, my dd and her dh work there and there are a lot of lovely old buildings! I just cannot believe that we can't seem to control this! These kids need more than a slapping and until an example is made I fear it will continue to go on! Last night was bad enough they got close to dd but she is ok thank goodness, I cannot bare the worry of another night like that one. I will also light a candle for everyone in the trouble spots.

Old style today was getting an order from app foods, very happy little dog now with her dog chews! The blueberry juice is being enjoyed by me right now and I have a nice supply of muesli ingredients which should last a few weeks. My big sis enjoyed her parcel as well, said it is like Christmas as I never tell her what to expect so it is a surprise for her! I feel much happier knowing she has some tins on her shelves and a few treats as well!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

    Good afternoon all.

Like so many others, I feel alternately very angry and very sad at the rioting. I can't watch the news, what a wuss. :( But I keep seeing a picture of the injured young man being robbed...

Yesterday morning my teenage DS travelled from deepest Kent up to and across London to catch a train from Paddington to Somerset to stay with family. He's due back on Sunday, with little suitcase on wheels, rucksack and laptop in bag. I keep seeing his face instead in the picture and it's making me feel sick. I know it's a few days away but I'm thinking of driving to Reading to pick him up. Am I panicking too much :(

Maybe...maybe not....but hey "safe than sorry" and all that. I'd go and get him if I were you. He may be as worried as you are - but wont think it "manly" to admit it. YOu might well get an "Aw mum....stop fussing" reaction from him if you do - but it will probably conflict with the grin on his face at seeing his mum there looking out for him:D

Ceridwen - I agree I would definitely risk his disapproval to collect him too :)
