Declutterers of the world - unite! :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

I realised today that I have loads of storage space, it's just filled with carp  What's more lots of it is in plastic storage crates - dozens and dozens of them. I've been lured into a false sense of being organised by having all this stuff in boxes but really most of it needs to be recycled in some way or just binned. So I cleared a big box today and intend to have a go at a box a day for the next few weeks until they are all sorted. I'll then have room for stuff I want to keep. Have also dug out a felt pen and some sticky labels so in future I will know what's where and won't fall into the trap of buying what I've already got!
Lizzyb do you think we're related somewhere along the line? This is exactly what I have been doing over the weekend and will continue today  I have sworn never, ever, ever again to pick up another free pen, keyring, recyled notepad, lanyard, fridge magnet or badge! Or free postcards for that matter - I had enough to send a postcard every week for the next ten years!!And goodness only knows why I've kept every telephone cable thingy since phones were invented!! I'm hoping to get a great whoosh of energy once I have cleared the clutter, and be able to keep the house cleaner and more organised. Is that what feng shui does? I have decided I can have one box of carp in the cupboard and that's it - you know, the box everyone has with bits in that have nowhere else to live? If I limit myself to one box maybe I can keep everything else under control!
Welcome newbies , it's good that you have delurked - the more, the merrier!
Kersplat would you be entitled to working tax credits or child tax credits or whatever they are?
Toottifrootti I got my shaking alarm clock off ebay. They seem to be very expensive if you buy them from the deaf charities but other places seem to be selling vibrating alarm clocks (new) more cheaply. Have a google. By the way, you can get a vibrating smoke alarm to fit under your pillow too. It's called fire angel. Mine was FREE from the local fire brigade. The smoke alarm bit goes at the top or bottom of the stairs or wherever's most suitable and the vibrating pad is connected wirelessly and goes under your pillow (although it does have a bit that needs plugging in down the side of your bed).
stiltwalker you should be banned for posting links to cheap booksellers, lol!!!!!I am now going to have to resist the temptation to go on that banana website!

Smileyt - related? Well my mum is from a small place near Leigh so could be ....
I know what you mean about the stationery - I should never have to buy something to write with ever again. At least it's all now in one place along with blu-tack, glue, sticky tape, sticky notes, staples, etc, etc. Shan't be buying Xmas cards later either as I have the leftovers from several years which will more than cover my needs this year.
Feng shui? Not sure about that but my reorganised downstairs is definitely both more comfortable and efficient. And sorting it out seems to have energised me.
Got lots of blackberries this morning - now open freezing. Washing nearly all done and hung, weeding awaits - doesn't it always? Another busy day in Thrift Cottage."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Thanks once again for more good wishes & pm's....really appreciated, still in hospital so still accessing site from my phone so still can't use thanks button.
Can any of you suggest some ideas for a gift to say thank you to the nursing and domestic staff when I finally get out of here. Money is very tight but I really would like to show my appreciation for the excellent care they've given along with constant good humour & patience.
I've mostly been lucky enough to be in an en suite side room, but was shocked when on the main ward at the bad temper, aggression, rudeness & downright violence shown by some of the patients. I don't know how the staff put up with it.People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

Taurus I always get the nurses lots of nice fruit and I think they must be sick of chocs and biscuits.
Welcome Toots :hello:
Flying visit. Will post properly later. x0 -
rosanna We used to add some well known powdered plant food (it works miracles:) ) to our compost and use it a second year on a different type of plant, then it was put on the compost heap.
I did find this article and it says some things that are worth thinking about.
We have deep beds in our greenhouse and I only scraped away about 8-10 inches of the old compost and replaced it with new. No disease at all in the tomato plats.0 -

taurus hope you are out soon. Fruit sounds like a nice idea - can't do flowers and chocs must get rather boring. Know what you mean about people on wards. Woke up once to find someone walking off with my dressing gown and was told things regularly go missing. One evening a patient got into fist fight with a nurse and did some serious damage.
