I noticed the first post had changed - I have to say I rather prefer it now
Shame that Kittie has deleted her posts - there were some interesting snippits in there.
Onwards and upwards through the tough times - any ideas for a new post name anyone?People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Tis done with a fairly unimaginative title (though I did have ideas for another one :rotfl:) If anyone objects to the new title let me know.
I reckon you should have done it Pinkychops and ignored any remarks that came your way0 -
How about TImes are Tough but we will stick together and survive?0

Before you start a new thread I have an update! DS went to the office with all his bits of paper and it was a mistake! :j When he origianally signed onto the course he was to apply for the Assembly learning grant, and if he was still doing that he WOULD have had to pay - he also would have been paid at the beginning of each term. But they transferred him to 'Pathways' without switching the paperwork in the office, and on Pathways he doesn't have to pay for the bus. I am so relieved!!! (So is he!)
Unfortunately we are not out of the woods yet, as he got a letter tonight from the Student Loans lot saying he'd not signed a Learning Agreement yet, which he did right at the beginning of term...so back to the office for him tomorrow!

Brilliant news!!!! :j:beer::T0 -
I've lived in several cities in England and Scotland and have noticed that the recruiting "shops" are always situated in the poorer neighbourhoods. This is certainly true here in Provincial City.
This tells me that they are deliberately targetting the youngsters with the most restricted choices.
I feel sad when I see very young men and women out in Afghanistan and elsewhere. In my job, I regularly see homeless men who are the fallout from previous military service in places like the Falklands and elsewhere. For some poor souls, military service isn't a leg-up into a career with prospects but a one-way ticket to a personal psychological hell from which they will struggle to escape for the rest of their lives.I'm not a Mum but if I was, I think I would be desperately unhappy if my young person chose to join the forces.:( And, as Ceridwen points out, it is one of the features of youth that you believe in your own indestructability.
.
That thought had never struck me GreyQueen - re the targeting of poor areas for recruiting - will bear that in mind in future.
In my case - it was my father who was quite violently (if quietly) opposed to either of his children going into the armed forces....and its been striking me today what "seeds" he planted in my mind over the years to make quite sure I didnt (cue "Big thank you for that Moi Daddee:T")...and a distinct feeling he's been sitting back quietly grinning to himself for years thinking "It worked then:D".
Who says its just women who tend to work that way?:rotfl:0 -

Hi ceridwen,
As I mentioned in my previous post, I too would prefer my son not to join the armed forces. However, my feelings/love for him are paramount and I will support him in whatever he chooses to do with his life, even if it goes against my own preferences for him.

Each to their own on that one Pink Winged.
I have never had any doubt that my father cares for me - and, in his case, his definition of care has always been to first and foremost ensure I never came to any harm if he could help it. So - I fully appreciate that his "gently steering me away" from going into the armed forces at any chance he saw was done with my welfare in mind and an acute appreciation that I wouldnt be aware of everything involved in going into them until I got to be rather older - or found out for myself the hard way.
So - in my books - he has always done the best he could to be a good father to me:D and probably pretty well aware what "buttons to push" to help in said "steering" sometimes:rotfl:. to one "crafty Moi Daddee":rotfl:0 -
