You ARE getting adventurous with cooking my lass :rotfl:. I checked out that curry recipe you tried (ie in "The Thrift Book" by India Knight) and found it includes:
ginger - I use lazy ginger usually
chillies - I use chilli flakes or lazy chilli
stick of cinnamon - I use cinnamon powder

    for instance.

I can sense that "bit between the teeth" now - heading for O.S. "Cook of the Year" Award:D:rotfl:

I'm not used to OH being ill. :o I feel like a complete saddo eating my tea in front of the computer. :rotfl:

"I've got a wet suit - do you think that would work as thermals. It's quite a struggle getting into it, so you'd warm up nicely just doing that...Plus once it's zipped up I might look a few Lbs thinner, so it could be a multipurpose undergarment. Just have to hope I don't get knocked down by a bus?"

you could use it as a slimming suit - neoprene is what those slimming shorts are made of!

Sorry to hear of your son's troubles katieowl - if he chose to go to college next year then according to Martin he could be better off because of the way that the repayment levels work. A friend of mine has a history degree and was rather bored at the Welsh Office for a number of years - but he never regretted his choice because he had such a great time at uni studying his favourite subject. Eventuallyhe was able to move sideways and is now dealing with listed buildings and ancient monuments and is much happier, so you never know. Another area of study he might be interested in is one of the aspects of conservation - CADW and others are often looking for people with qualifications and or experience in that area. The other thing is that ideally education isn't all about a job qualification - surely better to do the subject that he wants to while he can, end up a with a degree and possibly work in a totally different area then to be miserable in or out of work and not have the good college memories?
Sorry if that came over as a lecture - didn't mean to but do feel especially sorry for people whose first love is an arts subject

Well that's what me and the OH wanted him to do, go anyway, but you know what teenagers are like! He's seen his sister do a four year language degree and end up working at the checkout in Aldi...so I could see where he was coming from (God knows what will happen to DD no.2 as she's done the same degree and finishes next summer) He dropped out of his A levels, so don't know if uni is an option anymore. He's doing carpentry and joinery, which is what his Dad does, so he may get onto some kind of restoration via that route?

But if not he does have a plan B, or is that plan C? But it's a long haul. We have a family friend who works overseas for the Red Cross running building projects (rebuilding rather, like after earthquakes and the Tsunami) and I do actually think if he could get the right qualifications under his belt it would suit him down to the ground.

I've certainly not needed my wet suit to sweat today, it's been very windy but strangely warm, I've spent all day putting layers on and taking them off...mind you I was slaving over the stove. Sausage Casserole revisited for dinner tonight...with some extra mushrooms I forgot to put in yesterday and half an Aldi choritzo.

    Evening everyone!

Well no luck finding a knitting pattern for a mankini, so back to the drawing board. Little does OH know what a close shave he has had:D.

Busy day today giving the van it's final clean and tidy before the Environmental Health lady comes tomorrow. Then an hour in the garden chopping up brush from the ex trees. Lord alone how long it is going to take to clear the three piles of branches, but I know I will be sick of doing it by the end! But we will have at least a winter's worth of wood and kindling to offest the cost of felling.

For some reason I am somewhat pooped tonight, so no shinanigans, I can't be here following lurid tales of gimp masks and liver, I need an early night!

Thoughts and good vibes to all those that need them.

Haribo, ty for asking. He's back at work and just managing - but the doc seems to have given him a very strong mix of painkillers, I hope he can come off them soon.
Bloody freezing in this house today. Feeling bad because I just can't get meself together enough to meal plan or add stuff like lentils and carrots etc to meat. I always seem to be too tired or leave it to a last minute rush, and have to throw some dinner on in a hurry and can't be a$$ed getting fancy. However, we will get there one day eh. Wish the bloody ME would take a hike though.

  • Delurking to thank all you Old Style minxes for the mental pictures of mankinis and other delights. :rotfl:

Not only have you cheered me up as the economic picture becomes ever bleaker, but you have extended the good vibes to my lovely mum, whose arthritis has been worsened by the change in the weather. I reported on your suggestions, and seeing her howling with laughter this morning as I suggested she extend her crafting skills to a little something for my OH this Christmas has absolutely made my day.

:A Not only is the advice here great (I've even been batch cooking ), but it's been a long time since I've laughed so much. Cheers!

I just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I have been offered a temporary contract until the end of March within the same company where I worked when I became unemployed last Monday, in the end it only lasted 2 days. Thanks for all your support last week it made me feel so much better. I found this temporary job by using my own initiative and emailing someone with the company to see if there were any opportunities in their department. I will start my new job on Monday. The other good news is that this job is nearer to home so I will save £16 every month for my bus pass, the money I am saving will go into a pot.

Off to read the rest of the thread now.
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
    Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j
