  • Ladies ladies ladies (and gents) what a bunch of dark horses you are :naughty: . I have howled at some of the posts over the last two days :rotfl::rotfl:. What a mixed bunch we are. Keep up the posts.

Had a very OS tea tonight, HM leek and potato soup with HM bread and was so filling we did not need a pudding.

Creidwen I made crumpets for the first time two weeks ago and the family loved them. I had bought the rings fto cook them in from a supermarket which is not very OS but they worked really well and I can use them for lots of different things.

Well I'm having a mixed sort of day. Last night DS opened a letter from the college - which is an hour away on a bus laid on from town, to discover that they had decided to only give him a 50% contribution towards the cost of transport - £315, meaning that they want him to find that? He's been out of work since he left school ten months ago. He's got no income ATM, they've not sorted out his money for the 'scheme' he's on, we are on a really low income too, and they've seen the proof of that.

I told him last week that I wanted a tenner when it came through to cover OUR petrol etc. driving him back and forth to meet the bus, as really that was the MAX I thought I could ask if he was only getting £30 a week, and of course we are paying for all his food etc. So now he's looking at loosing another £10 a week to cover the bus! He's sooooo discouraged, he's gone back to the old moan of he might as well join the army, because then hopefully he will end up dead :(

He says he will query it, but because I don't want him to drop out, I'm going to end up paying it aren't I? There is absolutely no flaming incentive for these kids to make anything of themselves - he's not stupid by a long shot. He's probably the most intelligent of my three, but he decided NOT to go to uni because of the fee increases, as he thought the likelihood of getting a job in the field he was interested in was very low (history) that it wasn't worth doing, and he'd rather just work instead...but like I said, 10 months on the dole bored him to tears, and he had not one interview in that time!

Already I've picked up the tab for new clothes, safety boots, special tech drawing stuff, course books etc!

I've picked up a business B&B customer, who is working nights in town, and wants the room to sleep during the day, so no breakfasts or anything! That's a few extra quid.

I went into town to buy a few really small jars so I could pot my jellies up, which I got. I picked up a 1919 book about wales for 10p and a rather nice string of faïence beads for £1 - resisted a cook book in the Works...

Hope to get my dogs out now this B&Ber has arrived. I've done my Crab apple and sloe jelly, and just have the grape and thyme one to do...came online to check if Jam sugar with pectin has the same ratio of sugar to juice, but got sidetracked by OS!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:But you have to take photos of your husband's face when he opens his present on Christmas morning lol!

Katieowl, sorry to hear about your son's college expenses. How sad that he is despairing about his future at such a young age :( Hugs to you and to others on here who are struggling at the moment.

    Becky: hurray!

I'm off to bed - early start tomorrow. Good night all.

ETA As you may be aware, I don't know that much about the male anatomy. Seriously, I am wondering, have those photos been airbrushed, or do the models really fit everything into those skimpy doodahs? This is a serious question! Honest! Stop laughing at the back there!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Blimey not cheap are they? Now, tbh that does not look good on that there fittish bod. The very thought of OH prancing about with his nethers in something akin to a knitted fingerbob give me the willies :D. There's no way I'd be cooking turkey if that happened!

Thank's Smiley, going to put those in my favorites for when I need a laugh!

Edit: Can anyone answer that without getting the thread closed down?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Dear Gawd SmileyT. I nearly swallowed my cup. I imagine that isn't a case of one size fits all really.

Katieowl sorry to hear about your sons troubles. I think he has made a sensible choice though, to have a trade. If I could go back in time I think I'd train for a trade too, over here at least, there's always work for tradespeople.

Congratulations Becky2 on the job :j

I'm going to go and iron for an eon, and then make some welsh cakes as a bit of a reward for after.

You can pm me if you want! I wouldn't want to get the thread closed down!

Have you seen some of the other ones the seller makes? I have been crying with laughter. There's an OS niche in this country for some of the knitters on this thread to be sure! :D

Smileyt, those must be the most unsexy things I have ever seen! Backless too  Basically I guess *cough* you would have to know the recipients proportions and make to fit - is that ok???? trying to be subtle..... crochet is easy to change sizes in you just stop or carry on as required. :o

Anyway ( as my Oh always says to change the subject ) Im sorry some of you are having difficult days and how bl**dy ridiculous that colleges are struggling so much that a good kid cannot get a break

Mardatha is you new stove due anytime soon, its blooming chilly here so goodness knows how it is up your way!

Hope tomorrow is a better day for all of us O/S'ers

Haribo, ty for asking. He's back at work and just managing - but the doc seems to have given him a very strong mix of painkillers, I hope he can come off them soon.
Bloody freezing in this house today. Feeling bad because I just can't get meself together enough to meal plan or add stuff like lentils and carrots etc to meat. I always seem to be too tired or leave it to a last minute rush, and have to throw some dinner on in a hurry and can't be a$$ed getting fancy. However, we will get there one day eh. Wish the bloody ME would take a hike though.

Mar. sometimes it's best to focus on what your good at and look at ways to make the stuff you hate or aren't good at easier( like cooking )

A basic revolving meal plan, say over four weeks that you would never have to do again, really easy to slam in the oven types foods would probably solve all your angst at cooking, freeing up some energy for the things you really enjoy.

Quite agree. I now have a horrible image of a chipolata wearing a hairnet..... or possibly even a (very small) haynet.
