I've never had a problem with the ich sound, but maybe that's because I learnt German at a young age where ich is similar in pronounciation.
Changing the subject, it's really dark and grey here today. I think I'm going to have a read of the preparing for winter thread.
Gigervamp - we will definitely have to meet up for an OS coffee at some point in the future. x Also I know the feeling - weather here is awful and I have been looking at the preparing fro winter thread a bit more often lately now I live at the top of a valley and my work and local shop is at the bottom. Cant imagine that's going to be much fun in the snow!!!!Time to find me again0 -
Sammy, we're at the top of a hill too. The store cupboard came in very handy last winter!0

Very much so; having been brought up out in the sticks, we never went into winter without 6 weeks food in the larder. And a fair bit more in the way of preserves to get through the winter. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Wow Kittie, it certainly does feel like autumn here these last few days - getting dark a lot earlier and the light is changing. Good to hear that about Plusnet, thanks0

Grey the ones that get me is Ireland... for example Diarmuid... is pronounced Dermot??? surely its die are mew id...
Hey - if even my own mother pronounces the name of a local village the way incomers do - and she was the one that told me the "proper" way to pronounce (ie like us locals do) originally...then what hope is there?:rotfl: Maybe she thinks I overdid learning my "own" accent? - but I'm bilingual - ie I can speak in my normal voice and my "local" voice:D:rotfl:- though I suspect my normal voice is slightly tinged anyway with our local accent by now - as no-one has asked me where I'm from for some time - they all guess I'm local...
EDIT: just checked - and even having downed a glass of wine later - I can still roll my tongue and do all required Scottish sounds (but I DO have Scottish ancestry somewhere in my chequered heritage ....so guess the tongue stayed "flexible").
Reet....now must head in the direction of some courgette flowers. Tonights's experiment (well - one of them...as I have 3 lined up for this evening)...is trying courgette flowers for the first time. Got some batter sitting there "resting" at the minute for stuffed courgette flowers as part of dinner tonight. Never mind "never knowingly undersold" - my own personal motto is "never knowingly not tried any food that comes within my vegetarian remit - and if I havent tried it yet - then its on the list to try out pretty soon now...."...

FURTHER EDIT: had first "Duh" moment with the courgette flowers. Errm...so if some are male and some are female and websites differ as to whether one can use either - but I think the consensus is one can. Hmmm...next point = remove pistil if its one sex or stamen if its the other. Oh heck - took a wild guess and decided that I couldnt really figure what sex I have here - but took out the centre bit of the flower and thought "Guess this must be right?". Any clues anyone? Yer never know yer luck - some bod who has done this before might be on line before its 2nd stage of tonights dinner and I get battering those flowers...0 -
Can you tell me how you did this as some of my OH shirts are terrible & no amount of washing shifts them.
Thanks
Can't say it will work 100% for you and you do this at your own risk.
I used Ace Bleach on the spots (on offer in Mr T's for a £1)and then launder the tops. And then took a nail brush and scrubbed with washing up liquid.
Then I rinsed it out and then more ace bleach for a 5ish mins and then washed again.
It has not all gone but it a lot better. And will keep doing this until they are back to as normal as possible.
As I said I had one top that was white and stiff from the deodorant and that is is so much better. You can hardly see it.
If the shirts are already ruined it is worth taking a chance.
Let me know how you get on.
Yours
CalleyHope for everything and expect nothing!!!

Male flowers will be attached to a stalk while female ones are attached to the courguette.
Operation teach the girls to knit has passed off without too much drama.Pictures of them in deep concentration for my FB friends to see.
I even managed to knit a new discloth while they learned.
The best example of a Scottish place name which confuddled me when I moved here is Arduaine, pronounced Ardoonie.
Have cheered up considerably and willed myself better at the prospect of meeting up with my big sister and her [STRIKE]entourage [/STRIKE]family at the weekend. :j:beer::T:D
Welcome back Mardatha!!
Edited to add HERE YOU GO CERIDWEN. That's the first result that google threw up when I was checking to see if my answer had been too simplistic.:)0 -
Welcome home mardatha - and glad you are now saved from housework
Its really warm here again today yet not particularly sunny washing is just sitting there all limp and not really drying either.
We are off to the zoo tomorrow and am hoping that it stays dry and maybe cools a little too. We had a visit today from occupational therapy for DS7 to help us both manage his problems but also to suggest ways we can modify the house etc to make him safe - she was lovely but I did feel that we were teaching her - she left with pages of ideas that she plans on using with other families!! She has promised to return with suggestions for us next week so we shall wait and see.
Courgettes are all doing very nicely and we now have several tiny green tomatoes that i am watching.
Bought another bag of compost from Mr A at the weekend ready for the next lot of planting as it was particularly cheap and may well pop back for more.
Have upset DD16 and she is not talking to me - she asked to be allowed on holiday with boyfriend and his family and I said no (boyfriend is lovely but I dont believe in tempting fate - and has alcoholic mother whom father gets fed up with and leaves said boyfriend to cope alone while he takes time off) then she made a really bizarre request (IMHO anyway) - to sleepover at a friends house with a mixed group which included 8 boys and three girls. So again I said no, so now i am persona non grata!! Oh the joys of parenthood.0 -
Reet - no sign of any courgettes on the ones that I picked the flowers from = they must be male ones then I guess....
Guess that means I pick off the greeny bits at the base of the battered courgettes?
Errmmm...anyways...am eating my way through them as we speak and thinking "nice...will do again..and this time with stuffing of some description - ie soft cheese, etc". Can understand why some peeps on t'internet go "Whats the point - no particular taste to speak of?".
Errrm...well IMO...the point is for those of us who never ever do anything in batter - its a nice light batter and its the whole crunchy/etc experience that makes it worthwhile for us. Have absolutely no idea as to the last time I had any food in batter of any description - and have certainly never cooked anything in batter in all my born years...:rotfl: - so 'tis new taste experience and a good 'un to me personally and roll on that stuffing next time.
Only thing is - having never ever done owt more than sauted summat before now in smallest amount possible of oil - I now have a small size saute pan with about half an inch of olive oil (:oerrrmmm...extra virgin/organic/yeh...yeh....I know...I know...ahem...:o) and wondering what to do with it. Errr....does it solidify and I can put it in the bin or can I use it again for summat hopefully....ahem...:o:o).
In fact chez ceridwen - olive oil is what I use personally as body lotion - so I'm guessing if no food type ideas surface that I will just think "Looks like its t'best quality olive oil that I will be using as said lotion tomorrow - rather than the cheapest olive oil I can get my hands on.....ahem...."0
