So glad you are back - I too moved from BT/AOL a few years ago because of the same scenario. Now with the much-maligned TalkTalk - they've been very good so far and my broadband speed is mega-fast.

The chap who has kept me in broad beans recently has a very strong local accent and I sometimes have to ask him to repeat things - I swear he thinks I'm going deaf.

Summer has really set in here - nearly everything edible is producing. Keeping my fingers crossed that my late delivery of freezer will actually happen at the end of the week

I had a pint of dbl cream a couple of days past it's sell by date in the fridge, so thought I'd try the butter making, especially as I really fancy scones, so the buttermilk could go in those.

Can't find whisk attachment for food mixer anywhere, so whicked cream by hand to over-whisked scrambled egg stage and then it started to separate (so far so good) Bit messy, so divided it into smaller pieces and separated some buttermilk out. Tried shaking resulting fatty mix in a tall tupperware style tub, but the seal wasn't effective and the milk spat out.

This is where it goes wrong.... Shoved it in food mixer with a normal mix attachment to see if taht would help (very tired arms by now..!) - briefly started to separate and then mixed it all back in wonderfully - so I now have a yellow creamy-buttery mix. Very smooth, no separate milk. Can I rescue this. It looks like and is the consistency of mayonnaise! It's not unpleasant as such, but is neither whipped cream nor butter - will be passable on scones, I think, but not sure what else I could use it in if it's not rescue-able!

Oops! Still.... the kids found it funny;):D

Can't help with the buttermaking disaster, sorry! But I just wanted to pop and and say hi to Mardatha () and the best of luck to Mrs Chip.

I harvested some potatoes yesterday, hurray! Not much, but given that they have been in bags and utterly neglected, it's a miracle I've got any at all. One variety has scab, but it won't affect the taste if I peel the offending blemishes off. I got quite a few lovely pink fir apple spuds and they are my favourites, so I'm happy with that. I think I may have found my allotment mojo again :TLooks like we are in for a warm and wet week, so I have covered my tomatoes with plastic to keep the rain off them, and will hope for the best re blight. They are still at the flowering stage; I wish they'd hurry up and set fruit!

Gosh I'm sleepy .... it's very warm and muggy here. I'd better stir myself as I have to take the dogs out now. They are very happy as I came back from a meeting this morning with a doggy bag of sausage rolls and egg sandwiches for them :rotfl:

    Hi Peeps

Thanks for all the kind thoughts - we will no doubt have plenty of trials and tribulations which should give me plenty to post here about - we need all the help we can get!

A quick yoghurt question please - I have some brewing at the mo, just checked it and it just looks like curdled milk with a yellow liquid in it - is this right, or does it still have a way to go? It's been on since about 11.30 this morning. Once it's done, does it need straining to get rid of the liquid?
