The RV isnt so focussed on meat as such, he just doesnt like the idea that we are short of money or scrimping and watching the pennies. His best friend's wife said to me proudly that she never used her oven apart from heating up M&S pies :D He would happily eat veg if you told him they were expensive :D
Really raw here, grey and spitting and windy. The rainfall radar was so scarey that I screamed. Back to the knitting I think - need to knit the chickens some socks to go under their wellies..

Hello Jen welcome to the friendliest forum in the world!

Haribojunkie the dogs and I had a very good dance to Etta James and afterwards I did a bit of tidying up. The dogs love it when I dance, they jump up and down and bark (or perhaps they're begging me to stop making such an !!! of myself :rotfl:)

Mardatha I think you might have a business idea there - the Tories will love you - scrap social housing for the poor and make them all live inside giant pumpkins over the winter. Best hope David Ca-moron isn't reading this thread .....

Taurusgb best of luck at the hospital today sweetheart.

Ginnyknit thank you for the virtual hug. I am feeling more chipper today. I shall pm you about a vintage fair coming up next weekend.

I have a friend coming for dinner tonight so I had better do some hoovering as the dust bunnies are breeding like rabbits .....

I did a phone survey last night about whether or not the government is doing a good job. You'll probably be able to guess at my responses. At least I made the lassie doing the interviewing giggle .....

Well the morning started sunny and then it changed. it is now blowing a gale and raining so washing had to be brought incase it blew away.
I had a look around some CSs here at last friday and the prices were so high I know they need to make money but there was one jumper priced £7.99 and it wasnt new.

Probably too late but could you take a pillow with you to lie on? Good luck and fingers and toes crosssed for you.

You never "tell" a man (especially a DH) that you are economising. They immediately think they will be eating gruel and somehow punished!!!! Either that or they think their "man the hunter" skills are being disparaged.

Over the years I have given mine the idea that it is only sensible and normal to price check and get bargains because the money is better in our pocket than "theirs" (whover they are - government, big business etc.) he is tickled pink that curtain poles (half price and cheap postage) arrived this morning so we can hang the half price posh curtains at the hall door and in dining room ready for winter. He has even offered to phone the appliance companies later this week to price match and haggle down the hob, oven and fridge freezer we need.

I have been known to tell family I was trying out a famous chef's recipe rather than using things up or jazzing up a la leftovers.

Need to go and look for curtain linings now so see you later.

I think never telling them what they are eating is rule no.1, my OH eats all sorts of things he thinks he 'can't' eat :rotfl:

But he was adamant that TVP upset his stomach, and I can confirm that that was the only thing in my 'blind trials' that proved to be true! :D

Welcome Jen, hope you will post when you feel like it! I know what you mean, I don't always post but read when i can and I am always moved by the support and kindness here. I've been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of it and it got me through some of my worst times. Thank you so much Toughies! :T:A

Rosanna, I know where you're coming from! I have lost some weight but am so determined never to go back to the bigger sizes that I have burnt my bridges and got rid of all my larger clothes - it felt wonderful to get rid of them! In fact today one of my jobs is to pack up some of the better things for a charity shop. There are some rubbishy things that I will probably sell as textiles - we have had a lot of clearout shops pop up that buy old textiles by weight. Getting rid of all the too-large things may be folly as I lost weight twice before and ended up having to buy larger again but I am adamant that I am just not going to regain this time - and the first feeling of tightness in my clothes will be a sign to reign myself in! When I was size 16/18 I could never ever find anything in the charity shops. I think perhaps they are not as good over here anyway - you all seem to get great stuff and I see a lot of rubbish in ours, primani stuff being sold at dearer than what it probably cost in the first place, that sort of thing. Very occasionally I see something good but usually too small and on a very rare occasion too big for me! I am still on my weight loss journey and often think to myself how great it would be to be size 8 as that is always what is plentiful on sale racks and charity shops! :D But I don't think that's my natural healthy size more's the pity!

Softstuff, mmmmmm, thanks for the lovely recipe. Soups are just the thing these days and it's nice to get away from the same old, same old. And Kittie, that wartime recipe sounds great too - thanks for sharing.

Right, got to get moving and DO something useful. If nothing else, it keeps me warm!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Softstuff - thanks for the chicken ideas and recipes. Also thanks to Kittie for the lentil one. I made Rose Elliot's shepherds pie with brown lentils a few days ago and we had it again the next night. V tasty. Will try yours as I have a huge bag of red lentils from a local Asian shop.
Going to have a wander to Lid1 today and see what they have in fruit and veg offers then pop to te$co for potatoes if I need to. Store cupboard and freezer eating going on here.
Dsis left this morning but we go down to see them next month for a weekend so that'll be nice.
WM on now. Started my big box of Daaaz that was on offer a couple of weeks ago. Put some vinegar in for the rinse.
Oh what an exciting life I lead eh?:p. But it's a very content life and I am so grateful to all of you lovely peeps who share your ideas, your experiences and your stories. This is such a wee family in here.
Taurus - thinking of you today and I hope it goes fine for you at the hosp.
Off to chop veg for soup pot. There's sideways rain out there (no news for you there Mar) and I have a need for sooooop.
