Its a wide ranging review and nothing to suggest any of it will become policy soon, or indeed ever but some interesting ideas nevertheless. But noboby panic and start lining the walls with tinned tomatoes just yet ;-)

TOO LATE FOR MANY OF US ! lolol0 -
GreyQueen - thanks! Have saved it now and will make it again v soon. I've made it twice and really enjoyed it the time I added bits of cauli - they really soak up curry flavour!
Sunny and bright out there - good for the soul. DH off to work in a mo as he's in a bit later today, then it will be dog walking for me.
Need to defrost the freezer at some point so I'll have a tidy through of it and see what can be used then just get on and do it.
Had a better night with these painkillers but they didn't work as thoroughly as I'd hoped and had to take another 2 at 2am. Still, that helped me have a better few hours of sleep than I've had for ages. I'm another one who has seen quite a few folks with extremely healthy diets and lifestyle become ill or disabled. While I know it's good to eat as well as you can, exercise or keep active etc, and I do also believe in the power of positive thinking (to an extent), I also believe a lot is pot luck. Stresses of jobs, being in jobs you hate etc all take their toll. A good friend of mine is really struggling this past year with what looks to be diagnosed as M.E. All this talk of no tablet taking has made me want to give a big (((hug))) to all of us who HAVE to take them for various reasons:).
Take care all

I think now looking back, that I got ME when I got Glandular Fever away back in the mid 90s. After that I always tooks months to get over a cold, and the doc said it was "post-vital syndrome" which I just ignored - cos there's not a lot you can do about it is there! But over the years it must have been hiding away cooking, and one day It popped up as ME. I was always a bad eater but very busy and active until then.
I do agree re the stress & strain of modern life. Some of the ladies in here sound so busy and have such hectic lives that it does make me worry for them.0 -

Thank you for that.I was beginning to feel even more decrepit as I have been on some form of "drug" or another since my teens and will be for the rest of my days.
WCS I recently ordered a large household item and the delivery to my postcode was £90 but would have been £30 to yours. We contemplated having it delivered to the in laws but by the time diesel and OH's time came into it it just wasn't worth it. It's shocking how much they charge to deliver up here.
I have a crazy day, not helped by the fact that I now have a puncture on the car so have to plan an already busy day around getting that fixed. Am just going to try and persevere through the tiredness today and have an early night as I have no choice but to get these things done. Just off to top up the caffiene levels.0 -

((())) Haribo - hope you get to rest at some point.
Whilst I do agree that eating well and taking care of your health is great some diseases are just totally indescriminate - my FIL has parkinsons and no amount of knitting his own lentils will have prevented it it nor will cure it. He has a scary amount of medication to take but having seen him what he is like when he doesn't get his tablets I am in awe of modern medicinePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Sorry cross posted with if only...Thanks for that, rachbc, I heard it on the Today Programme and nearly choked on my porridge. Makes me wonder if this might be an example of so-called kite-flying. Y'know, a proposal so outrageous that when they backpedal after a public outcry, another only-slightly-less-outrageous proposal gets passed as it looks innocuous by comparison. Cynical, moi?:rotfl:
Anyway, I wandered away from the decluttering websites where I was spending some time to engage with the Fridge Issue and found a site of a company which repairs them here in Provincial City. You can email the make, model and problem and they come back with a quote. So I have, and await developments.
I'm seriously galled that Mr Beko is in immaculate physical condition and seems to be of a higher build-quality than the new ones I was looking at in J. Lewis yesterday and is on it's way out. If it's fixable without spending an arm and a leg, fixing it would make me very happy, plus I wouldn't have to pay delivery and disposal charges.
Friend and neighbour SuperGran has a knackered fridge too (works fine, door is broken off and propped closed) and I have jested that we need to cannibalise the cabinet of mine and the workings of hers to make one working FrankenFridge. If this repair company comes up with the goods, I shall ask her if she wants me to get her a quote for repairing hers.
Hmm, I wonder if these Tough Times will see a resurgence in repair companies rather than the trash-it-and-buy-a-new-one-its-cheaper state of play which had pertained for the last 20-30 years?
Be interested to know what the rest of you think/ have noticed.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

we are definately menders - oh is very nifty with a screwdriver and soldering iron so many many thinks have been fixed or frankenstiened over the years. However when our Bosch washing machine died with a very big bang it was more epxensive to buy the parts then to get a new machine - let alone pay for a repair man! Crazy but cynically I suspect a deliberate policy by the manufacturers. If something is very old I do weigh up th energy efficienty of the old v new and sometimes the reduced runnign costs make a replacement a wiser option (our boiler being the prime example - 3 winters of running repairs before we finally got a new one and our bills are about a third lower)People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.
