Sorry to hear re OH's job problems - and had to nip in quick to say "Tell him - under NO circumstances - to resign from the job if they pull a cut in hours stunt on him". What he needs to do if it becomes clear that they intend to go ahead anyway - regardless of his obvious (and well understandable!) opposition to this is to find a way to get them to sack him (eg what constitutes sackable misconduct for instance). He MUST NOT resign - because if he does then the DWP will sanction him and there will be no benefit payable to him for up to 6 months.

If work are trying to cut pay, then your hubbie has just given them a great way to go about it.

Unfortunately whether he resigns or is sacked, he would face a sanction - likely to be 6 months in either case. So he needs to wise up on benefit rules and employment law urgently.

And to start looking for alternative work and cheaper digs.

I read that comment re OH commenting that he would leave if they cut his hours and groaned visibly at the thought of giving the employer possible "ammunition" to quote against him to the DWP:eek:

BUT - my own take on this is that he needs to be ready to state to the DWP if it comes to it that that was a "heat of the moment" type comment and, on reflection, he certainly wouldnt do any such thing.

"Kneejerk" comment - brought about by extreme stress at the time is how to deal with him having made such a comment.

One cannot be judged by one's words - only by ones ACTIONS. His "actions" will be that he stays put..continuing to do the job to the best of his ability and giving the employer a letter (CAREFULLY WORDED) making it plain that he intends/wishes to continue with exactly the same hours as he has now - if they DO go ahead and try to cut his hours.

The phrase I have in mind (just coined it....) is "Not every engagement ends in marriage".

Vampiric Addiction I hope your day gets better.
Sorry your OH is having such an awful time at work and his employers are being unreasonable. I hope he finds a new job with a fair employer soon. Contrary to popular generalisation  , there are plenty of fair employers out there. I know cos I have been employed by a few of them and I've been one myself for most of the last decade. Take it easy pet and try to find some informed advice on the Employment board. x

Our telephone cable has become detached from the wall outside and is blowing around. Other than that no damage yet. Fingers crossed it stays that way although there have been lots of sirens heading out of town all afternoon so I guess there are problems elsewhere. :(

HJ, I was watching some west coast webcams earlier, the sea is rough and all the Calmac ferries seem to be parked. If you know what I mean lol!

I put the chicken in a large frying pan and add the Thai curry paste and stir until the chicken is coated, then add chopped onion, red pepper, frozen green beans and coconut (I use creamed coconut and add a little water, but if you're using coconut milk, you probably won't need the water) and cook until... well, until it's cooked!
I also sometimes use diced sweet potato and butternut squash instead of the chicken, which is lovely.
If I can't be bothered to cook rice, I sometimes pile the curry into pittas or HM wraps.
Oh dear, I'm feeling hungry again!

Mrs W - it was flipping lovely! thank you. I also threw in a home grown chilli - that nearly blew my head off and made some flatbreads. It just needed some mango chutney or something sweet so I will have to investigate.

It's been funny seeing no ferries coming and going today. I'm surprised you could see anything on the webcams. :D
