  • Born Blonde, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mum sounds lovey, hold on to those good memories. Words are pretty useless at times like this, but know that there are a lot of virtual friends thinking of you at the moment. Take care of yourself.

    Welcome Kimsmum :hello:
Got the plum jam and plum chutney done today as well as starting off some sloe gin and peach vodka. Tonight I will brine the shallots for pickling and make a few jars of Apple sauce and a batch of pickled eggs. Then an early night I think.
I'm very, very tired. Think all the vinegar in my chutneys is going to my head.

((Borne Blonde)) You sound like you had a lovely relationship with your Mum, so you will have memories to treasure. Be gentle with yourself now and make sure you give yourself time to grieve, laugh and cry at your memories.

  • I have only (fairly) recently delurked, but always read a lot of these posts. Born Blonde: Sounds like your mum had a great life and, as you say, a good innings. Doesn't make it any easier though, so a big hug for you. My mum was a waste of space. Even so, she died 35 years ago and I still miss her!
Going back a bit (lot) and thinking about supermarket bread, I'm going to start a separate thread asking for advice on buying a breadmaker!!!
    Normal people worry me.

You dont need to start a separate thread - its Panasonic every time...ie thats THE one everyone goes on about. BUT...I have to say...that thats the one I bought yonks ago and....<cough> errr....sold as in "brand new - totally unused" condition to a friend when I realised I was simply never ever going to use it - I was just going to make bread by hand and that was that....:o:):o

    Big hugs born blonde....

HJ - it has froggie lining!! I shall take and post piccies of Edna modelling tomorrow :)

As far as family fueds go... I do not speak to my Mother, Father or Stepmum simply because my mental health and the happiness of my family (DD &DS) are more important than anything else..... I am not massively close to my sisters either (I have three), I won't go into the reasons why other than my parents have a lot to regret in their old age.....

Still, it has made me who I am today, and determined not to repeat their mistakes.....

Ona happier note, I am off to indulge in some ice cream whilst watching the Great British Bake off :)

Now that you have made that comment as well - then added to the earlier ones of being told by a couple of posters that their doctor told them to achieve a weight that is underweight (according to height/weight tables) - then I wonder if doctors as well these days are going by BMI rather than by the old height/weight tables?? Hence why they are getting it so wrong sometimes.

At 5'3" and 8st4lb you are an absolutely perfect weight according to the consensus of opinion on height/weight tables. That IS the optimum weight for a medium build woman of your height.

Of course - I've just assumed you are still quite young??? If you are middle-aged or older then he might be really saying "Put on that extra 7-14 lbs weight that a lot of people recommend once you reach that age".

    ***************************************************

Wish I was in the young bracket :rotfl:I think I must be one of the older ones on here. Any extra weight goes around the tum/boob area so it can be quite uncomfortable. If I can keep at the weight I am I'm happy with that, but with a sweet tooth it can be hard :D My BMI thing is normal.

I've just bought some spelt flour to see if that helps DH as he gets bloated with bread.

Thanks to the person who mentioned bleach/bicarb for cleaning grout. Am going to give that a go tomorrow to a part which is particularly stubborn.
