So sorry to hear of those already struggling having to take on the might of the system AGAIN. Have always wondered about the 'qualifications' of those assessing the claims of those who are disabled in some way. A fairly recent piece of stupidity came to my attentiom when a friend who's a breast cancer survivor was told she was expected to return to work as a teacher while undergoing CHEMOTHERAPY!! Apart from the fact that it can make a person feel really ill it also compromises the immune system. When I worked as a school nurse, in normal health I would have a chest infecti6 picked up from the kids every autumn. One wonders if the DWP is hoping to cull the population with life threatening infections?! Yesterday the News had an item which said the Govt is devolving the payment of housing benefit to the 470 plus local authorities minus 10% to decide on a local basir who will be entitled to HB. Only a consultation exercise at present but yet another plan to make the poor suffer further hardship as rules will for HB will vary according to where you live-how can that be fair?

Getting tougher and tougher innit ? And we were saying this morning imagine how much snow we'll have this winter if the weather stays on the way it's going...
  • Reading some of these threads, my heart goes out to people who are struggling with health and/or money probs. It makes me realise how lucky I am to have enough to manage on (just) and reasonable health - apart from old age arthritis!
An interview on TV News yesterday about the obesity problem. Young mother replied that you can buy pizza cheaply and a cheap box of microwave chips. "When you've got four kids it's easy and quick innit?"
Grrrr...how long does it take to make pasta/sauce, how quickly can you cook carrots; how much does it cost to buy healthy food and freeze in portions; how............oh bloody 'ell. Wish I could have afforded to throw my slipper at the television!
    Normal people worry me.

I read that a week or two back someplace else - and that is where my fear/suspicion comes from that I suspect even the unemployed will be told to pay 10% of their Council Tax bill from still - which I darn soon guesstimated out as if I were on the Dole personally would mean having to hand over approx £1.50 of that pathetic little £65 odd a week for C.T. - and thats from someone who wouldnt be required to stump up any missing rent money from the Dole (as I'm through with rent and mortgage these days)... - and I know that I just couldnt do it (so goodness alone knows how someone would manage if they had to find some rent out of that £65 as it is now even....).

Hobsons Choice - re the pizza and microwave chips. Yep "Its easy and quick innit - to just make up some pizza base and get the kids to prepare toppings for it, whilst making up some home-made chips. One kid sent out to the garden to pick some salad. Sorted....half the price or less and a sight healthier."........DUH!

Today I have painted the front door, glossed the shed door, painted under the stairs and glossed the door. Stripped the wall paper from just inside thedoorway and painted it. Still lots to be done but that has been my day!!

Can just imagine FK coming face to face with hens!

Well - the "love of money" is indeed the "root of all evil" Frugal ...well...a heck of a lot of it certainly. There's many other causes.

Anyways - Frugal my lass - how are you these days? How's your father?

Me too, popped on and was disgusted with the DWP, but as you know I have struggled with them in the recent past so I know what evil rules they have to follow - ie if some one is really ill make it as hard as possible for them

I actually had a bit of luck today, my wardrobe is down to 2 tops an a pair of jeans, plus one good skirt - went in Cs and found an entire rail of tops in my size (very rare as I am large) and got 4 tops and a long cardi all suitable with a polo neck for winter -£20- still celebrating am set up for many months now.

Whoopsied chicken and veg, gifted spuds for tea. Hoping my courgettes weigh enough to do the chutney tomorrow.

Hugs to all in need and I mean this most sincerely I hope you all find a way to beat the bl**dy system cos you are good people trying your best.
