Well my confidence is now at rock bottom. I failed both exams and somehow have to pick myself up and walk into work with my head held high. They tear your confidence to pieces at the best of times and today I think i might cry. I just dont know what to do but I am sure the two jobs havent helped.
I am sorry but right now I feel like a total failure and very bloody thick. These were my worst results ever.0 -
I think it is Hester who says..
Dont let success go to your head or let fear into your heart.
We have just had to revaluate as DD didnt get the grades she wanted so cant go to university. She now has a plan B, which is looking better than her original Plan A. You can do it xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Get your head up and brave it out. Just because you were too busy working to get the exams passed does not make you a failure. At least you had the guts to take them.
Don't let anyone rip your confidence to shreds - hold your head high and smile and tell them real life got in the way.
I'm sorry you haven't passed, but you know this isn't the end of the world as you know it. Can you possibly take them again when you have more energy?
Thinking of you.

Thanks to you both xx. I will be resitting in December. I have spoken (in between sobs and snotty noses!) to the OH and I have decided that trying to do this on my own with a book is just not working for me. I need more structure so with him backing me financially, I am going to take the courses and with these come a pass assurance so if you fail you get a resit course for free. I know I worked really hard at the end but the courses will help pace me better and stop me from saying yes to every extra shift at the pub!!! I just need some direction and support - something I definitely do not get from work. I have also discussed giving up the second job or at least only working one evening in the week and Saturday night as that will give me the Saturday daytimes to concentrate on studying. I will get there but today I feel like total crap!!!!
But its work that is my main concern. They will just love this failure.
On a positive note we went to the allotment yesterday and have stacks of potatoes, carrots and onions. I planted some more cabbages and netted them so fingers crossed we will have some stuff for winter. And one of the guys from the pub gave me a dozen eggs for nothing, bless him. He said it didnt matter paying him as I was the only one who treated him no different when he was in hospital and wasnt quite looking his best!0 -
Many thanks for the birthday wishes.
Does anyone here use a pasta machine? DS has decided he would like one for his birthday, he's very fond of pasta, but I have no experience of them at all and I wouldn't know a plum from a turkey.
Are they fairly straightforward to use in a small kitchen, or will he need a big work surface? (student digs) He's pretty good at cooking but has only ever cooked dried pasta.
I had a pasta machine at uni and used it constantly... In fact i haven't used it nearly as much since... I dried the pasta on the back of chairs or on radiator airers, and fed most of my friends with it!0 -

I was toying with the idea - and got as far as reading the reviews of the one sold by Arg*s and coming to the conclusion it wasnt good enough quality and would be looking at the Lakeland one instead (and theres always the fact there that Lakeland have a good guarantee system - if it doesnt work they refund/replace it without going into "What date did you buy it?" and wondering about any other excuses they can think of not to refund if required).
So - if I was still of a mind to - then I'd head for Lakeland myself (just gave up the idea when I realised my Greenlife Juicer would do this for me - errr....when I have the time to start experimenting with it;):o).
EDIT: Just read the above post and thought "Knew there was a reason I might regret getting rid of my radiator airers".....DUH!
REDLADY - sorry to hear about the exams. Just to wish you luck with the resits and that they will go well with you.0 -
Forgot to say - pasta machine - get an imperia0

Awww redlady ((hugs)) and I'm sorry this round of exams hasn't worked out for you. I know that I've had ME for a quarter of a century but it seems a lot to ask of yourself to have a f/t job, a p/t job, study as well and have an allotment. Good on you for trying to do it all and best of luck with the supported studying. If it's any consolation, my cleverest friend (Mensan IQ and all) dropped out of an accountancy degree after the first year as he just couldn't hack it; he went on to a successful career elsewhere. It's a tough subject but you'll get there in the end.
I'm tolerably smart but could in no wise think about doing accountancy as I have to take my socks off to do big sums (for when I run out of fingers.........;)). Thank gawd for calculators.
 Belated Happy Birthday, Charis. Hope you had a good day. Tomatoes are far less important that lurve, of course, but they are easier to store and sometimes last longer.......:rotfl:
Grinning at people's stories of GP traumas; good on anyone for calling them on it. I have a great GP now but have had some horrors in the past in another town.
The lovely GP whose reaction to my possible suggestion that I might have ME; "There's no such thing!" This was 3 weeks after the BMA had announced all over the media that they officially recognised ME. He obviously knew better.
After a convoluted diagnostic process of my very very rare metabolic disorder, which took a year and the resources of a world-famous teaching hospital, and during which I came within a whisker of death, I finally got the correct diagnosis and medication and started to return to normal (well, normal + ME). Saw same GP about an unrelated matter not long after and he looked at my notes and sneered:
Doctor; "So there is something wrong with you after all; I am surprised!"
GQ; "Well, I'm not!"
Doctor; "Well, you wouldn't be, would you?"
Tell ya, if I'd had the strength, I might have killed him there and then. Never mind apologising for being so slack as not to refer me for investigations after years of failing health, other than to try to get me to take prescriptions for anti-depressants. !!!!!! nearly killed me. Mind you, there were doctors who refused to accept that tuberculosis was a disease not a neurotic condition for years after the rest of the world had moved on, so they can be a little dense at times.
BTW, a dear friend with severe osteoarthritus (sp?) finds a little ahem, "puff" very helpful. One time when she was laid-up I was fetching her prescriptions from the pharmacy and she asked if I wouldn't mind fetching the other stuff too.......;) Sadly, told her no, I wouldn't go to her dealer, but someone else did. I did the grocery run instead.........Knowing my luck, I'd get caught red-handed with the weed and I'd never live that down.
Hope everyone has a good day, GQ xEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ - I know how he feels as I am a member of Mensa too! I did it to prove a point. To be honest they are two totally different things. One is logical, the other is a pain in the butt!!!
I think it is all down to exam technique. And you wouldnt be the first to say that something needs to give in my life either!
But it is work that I am dreading. They really are going to love this.
Dreamyd, you really are wonderful. Thank you xxxx0
