fight them!, your contract is with the supplier (Argos) and 6 months is not a reasonable time. I would write the letter recommend and advise on the weekly charges of using a local laundry service which you will have to forward the invoice to Argos for as you can't be expected not to wash clothes
OP. Argos are trying it on. They can't expect you to sign away your basic statutory rights just because you take delivery of an item you've already purchased.
They'll soon cave in if they realise you're not going to roll over for them. Write the letter that's been suggested, then if there's no joy, from what I can gather, filing a small claims to them is a simple online process.
P.S. The handle on the door looks really narrow where it attaches to the main door.
I have drafted my letter giving them 14 days.
At the point where the handle attached to the door it is 3mm thick.
