You would need to check your model number but you can buy them for £5.99, and there's an instruction video on how to fit it.

Don't do it under warranty, your rights are under SOGA against Argos.

Indesit have nothing to do with it.

I've tried that with Argos they said it was supply and delivery only I even said I was contacting Consumer Direct they said it was ok it was stated in their terms.

I think I can fix it myself with some strong glue I just want to do it if I can get it fixed.
  • Bullox, Argos are trying to fob you off - I have found they do this with electrical items. It's utter BS, if they sell it they are responsible for it regardless of what is in their T&Cs. Consumer Direct obviously have no idea either.

Send them a letter before action and then take them to court. They are relying on you getting fed up and moving on. Play them at their own game.

I have no time for retailers that shirk their responsibilities and Argos are one of the worst (my experience of their management is also they are clueless).
    Thinking critically since 1996....

what a minefield, can you post a picture of the broken part/assembley on here? has it actually snapped through you pulling on it(i.e. was the door jammed?) i am a retired engineer who spent the best part of 20 years repairing appliances , if you can post pictures of the snapped handle and where it fixed to ill write you a quick report about it for free if i can see that it wasnt your fault, im fed up with reading all the stories about big companies with deep pockets neglecting their responsibilities, i had a similar experience with comet recently regarding a vax, i agree with the above poster that its nothing to do with indesit, argos are the retailer to whom the soga applies

First off, under the SoGA any fault is assumed to be inherent if the machine is under 6 months old (consumables are excluded, like lightbulbs and batteries etc etc, ink cartridges etc, but it doesn't matter in your case) and it is down to the retailer to prove that it was damage caused by you.

Your contract is with Argos, and you can force them to provide one of three resolutions in a timely manner without causing significant inconvenience. These can be, a repair, a replacement, a refund and the retailer can choose whichever is most cost efficient.

However, even though your contract is with Argos, it seems Indesit provide the after sales service and I would of said it's easier and quicker to just go down the route of least resistance (usually a Free Of Charge repair provided by Indesit) but in this case it would seem Indesit are refusing to repair as they have claimed it is without their warrantee T&C, and they are allowed to do this as they have no direct contract with you (They have a contract with Argos to provide a repair under SoGA most probably, but it doesn't affect you) Your contract will be directly with Argos if things go wrong.

That said, if its something that costs just a few quid to replace and you know how to without causing any damage to the machine then you have to weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of fixing it yourself.

The washing machine wasn't jammed I was opening it to put washing in. There was no more force than I have ever used before to open it.

We have looked into doing it ourself you have to replace the whole door which cost approx £60 I think but we don't really have the know how.

In the meantime, keep a log of all your communication with Argos & Indesit (when, who you spoke to & what they said), it may come in handy later if Argos still try to play silly.

OP. Argos are trying it on. They can't expect you to sign away your basic statutory rights just because you take delivery of an item you've already purchased.

They'll soon cave in if they realise you're not going to roll over for them. Write the letter that's been suggested, then if there's no joy, from what I can gather, filing a small claims to them is a simple online process.

P.S. The handle on the door looks really narrow where it attaches to the main door.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
