Take it to Samuels and ask them for a quote?

Won't achieve very much, but at least you could then argue the toss with them.

When you say quote what do you mean please - I don't think they buy jewellery do they? Or do you mean insurance valuation?

oooh yes they do a valuation service - think I'll put it in it'll start a conversation at the very least - worth a shot got nothing to lose now! thanks for the tip! doh don't know why I didn't think of that!!

How about getting it coated and re-sized and wearing it on a different finger? Seems a shame not to use it. And if you can't sell it for much... perhaps reinvigorate it?

Or... you can do what my mate does. She wears all her (usually engagement) rings on a chain round her neck. She had about four at one point, bless her.

Thanks for the great idea but unfortunately that wouldn't work for me as I would need to wear it on a completely different hand to my eternity ring not just a different finger but then that would mean it would be on my wedding hand and that wouldn't look right as I have a full diamond wedding band and diamond engagement ring on my wedding finger! Oh dear!!

I would avoid high street jewellers if i were you. The mark up on jewellery can be as high as 200%. Rip off big style. Go to places like the jewellery quarter in Birmingham or a manufacturing jeweller.

also, the other places you had it valued at are probably undervaluing the ring. After all ,if they are reselling it, it's in their best interest to buy it at the lowest price they can get you to sell it for. How many total carats are the diamonds? 700£ isn't really alot for diamonds.

At least 200%! If you ever see any of the 'worth £5,000 yours for only £259' type sales on jewelry shopping channels you'll know how much bluff there is in pricing. I love the way those channels 'discover' a cheap rock, then market it polished up nicely with a fancy setting as something special and unique

You have up to 6 years to claim damages - but the onus is on you to prove that the ring was faulty and of poor quality - and of course explain why you waited so long. You need to write a letter to the Jeweller stating that under SOGA you have a right to a full refund as the ring was of poor quality

Sorry - but YOU need to look at The Sale of Goods Act, NOT just quote, parrot-like someone else's post !

    Sorry, are you suggesting fraud?

    No need to be sorry.

No, I am suggesting she might lose her ring and wish to claim on her house insurance. How can it be fraud, if she has lost the ring?

    These things happen.

So basically it was a yes, you are suggesting the OP gets it valued and 'loses' it, which would be fraud.
