Are you sure he was registered? It certainly sounds as if he hasn't a clue about boilers and is a complete wa**er

The boiler won't fire, so what does he do?, change the flame sensing electrode that only works once the boiler has lit.

All the other parts have nothing to do with this fault.

As it appears gas related you need to get another RGI in who knows what he is doing.
  • Could be a number of things, such as the air-pressure switch, but it's difficult to diagnose without being on-site.
It is not uncommon nowadays to have a new boiler after 8 years with some makes.
If you are forced into having a new boiler, I would recommend a Vaillant, as their a good quality and reliable boiler, which even though their more expensive to start with, should save money later down the line.
Firstly, get a few quotes from some RGE's, and if they all say it's the same problem, it probably is! Hopefully you can get it repaired without having to get a new boiler though!
  • Read the post again, How can it be a aps that's faulty?

    Gas valve?
    Blocked jet?

There is no substitute to having a guy you can trust.
I make ground coffee for my guy, and give him chilled water melon on hot days.
  • Yum water melon. yeah gas valve is where i would be looking.

I, from the start, had my suspicions of the OP DIYing it and not having a RGI round.

I can't believe any RGI could be this ignorant!
