Regarding (2) I will check my Terms and Conditions but I expect they will say that the fixed term is waived on the occasion of a house move. I will edit that if that is not true.

The question would really be if you were forced off the fixed term contract, and I suppose if this meant early exit fees had to be paid. If someone fixed till March 2014 but then moved sooner, they would lose the benefit of the long term fix if they were forced to change tariffs, and would likely have been overpaying up until that point compared to other non-fixed tariffs. From the customer point of view, what you would want would be to be able to transfer the fixed price deal to the new property.

JennyW - sorry if this is of no interest to you, I didn't mean to take this off topic.

Right, after pretty much deciding that I would go with EDF on their fixed plan, I thought I would give them a call just to clarify a few things and highlight Ultrasonic's concern too.

Well I was hanging on for 30 minutes then gave up . If I cant get through now, I'm going to feel very frustrated if I'm a customer with a bill/DD query. So I think not getting through has made up my mind :(

Whilst pricing is important, customer service is right up there for me so back to the drawing board

Indeed it is tracker. Very "naughty" of Southern Electric to include the word "fixed" in non-fixed tariff. Why does an allegedly highly rated supplier need to do that? 2% for a 3 year lock-in? Pah!

When I try uSwitch I cannot see the Southern Electric tariff you refer to?

Regarding the SE rates you quote are you 100% certain you are quoting VAT inclusive? They look like ex-VAT (or did you already factor in the 6% DD discount)?

Regarding "which tariff", personally I have gone for EDF 2014 (which I *believe* is significantly cheaper than the newly announced Southern Electric "fix" ( which is a few months longer).

I have experienced all the Edf MyAccount problems mentioned in the Forum. At the same time the actual transfer has worked within the 4 to 6 week expected timeframe without having had any contact with Edf. Because contact is "impossible".

My conclusion is that that while the Edf MyAccount online system is *very* "buggy" the back-office procedures are fine.

It's your choice, but if you are *thinking* of Edf 2014, don't leave it too long.

the rates quoted in my post #16 are inclusive of VAT and from the USwitch website (I have just edited the post to show the figures excl VAT too). Te SE figures I have quoted too (with the EDF ones) come up when you click "compare to current supplier" tab on Uswitch. I also called SE and was quoted the same figures. I only found out about the 2% tracker when I called them.

the timeframe of the switch with EDF doesn't bother me, however it's the contact (lack of) that concerns me. I always get through to SE very quickly plus their on-line live chat is very good too. I've been chatting to them this week about the rates whilst at work so has saved me time calling them when at home.

I'm even more undecided now. If I'd of got through last night then I would've gone for the switch this morning.

Don't blame you for reaching that conclusion. When I set up my account with them in May, I got through by phone very quickly. My account still isn't correctly set up (like they're not taking any direct debits) and I emailed them about it on 19/7. No reply yet, apart from the automated response saying they will get back to me within 10 working days, so I'll just have to wait.
I'd like to think they're just overwhelmed with people wanting to switch, although from what I read on here, the problems may be a bit deeper rooted than that.

Yes you have highlighted things that concern me - lack of contact when there are problems with payments and DD set ups. I have credit which I would move to the new supplier but now I'd be worried where it would end up

I personally don't feel the EDF problems are just because of the offers as from reading many older threads on this board, it seems to have been going on for quite some time.

I switched from EOn to EDF and the credit I had with EOn was refunded to my account they were taking the DD from. I would doubt if any credit with your existing supplier would be handed over to the new one. It's your money after all, you start with a blank sheet with any new supplier.

and I hope you will consider the obfuscatory term "Fixed Discount" unworthy of a self-trumpeted top customer service organisation.

It's pretty clear now that the new EDF Computer came in a flat pack with the instructions written in Swedish.

It's very easy to get some of the bits in the wrong place because the diagrams are always minute and don't photocopy very well.

An Engineer has been called. Sven is liaising with Jacques as we speak but it's a long and painful process.

The meter reading bit wasn't in the box at all and they are making up a bespoke fix on an Excel spreadsheet.

So if you know anybody who has any idea about Excel, EDF need them. All this technology baffles them a bit, answering the phone is challenging enough.:)

Except that they can't afford a legal copy of Excel so they are going to use Open Office on an old IBM PC they found in a skip!!:D
