Me and my big mouth - help!

Had a run in this morning with a drunk and lairy teenager (girl) on the way to work, walking from the car park to the office. Couldn't stop myself from answering back. Stupid. She chased me up the street, I just tried to ignore her and keep walking, she grabbed my arm and was getting threatening and just as was wondering what on earth I was going to do a young man came along and dragged her away as 'there are cameras here'. I carried on to work just up the road, pretty shaken up, he caught up with me again and asked if I was alright and said the girl was just drunk.

But the girl walked off back towards the carpark.

And I have to go get my car in about 30 minutes time.

What should I do? There's no one here who can walk over with me and although I hate to admit it, I am feeling anxious about this. What if she is there and starts up again? She was threatening to hit me. I don't really want to call the police right now as I don't think she is that much of a genuine threat, just a gobby drunk kid, but I don't know what to do if she is over there. Keep moving and ignore her?

Be prepared to defend yourself and hit her back? If she's drunk her co-ordination won't be up to much so be prepared to just put her down and make a break for your car if the worst comes to the worst.

Having said this, I highly doubt she is waiting for you and has probably gone off to sleep, look at traffic, drink some more, etc.

I agree, she is probably long gone by now, and if she is that drunk, she probably won't recognise you. Can you put on /take off your coat, tie your hair up or let it down? Just a slight alteration to your appearance should throw her off if by some major fluke she is still about. At least you will be ready for her this time, but I honestly don't think she will be. Walk tall and confidentally. x

OK thanks. It's weird that I feel really shaken up by this. I used to live in a really rough dodgy area and wasn't scared of anyone. A a few years living in peace and quiet have turned me into a wimp.

how did it go when you went home OP? when I read it I thought she probably would have been long gone by then, or started on some other poor soul and either got what for/been arrested/lying in a pool of her own sick

OP was last active at 9.55 tonight, so assuming she would have followed up had she been attacked, I hope we can assume she got back unscathed.

I really do sympathise, I'd be the exact same in that situation.

    Hi

    i'm still alive, thanks

I did think about posting an update but the thread had sunk and I thought maybe people would think that was silly.

No sign of her, friend probably dragged her home to sleep it off. I hope I don't bump into her again but she probably won't remember me anyway. Another time I'll just keep my mouth shut. Well, try to. I only responded as I was so cross about her accosting me with all this rubbish on my way to work, trying to scare me I suppose. All these gobby horrible chavvy teenagers/thugs going around intimidating people and I wanted to stand up to one of them. *sigh* (I know most teenagers are nice and not like this).

    Full story:
8am. Me walking through short but narrow alley/road between car park and main road. Her and friend coming the other way. She clocks me and locks right on and marches up to me. 'Are you a social worker?' she shouts. I stop, thinking, um what answer do I want to give here, this is not good. 'No' I say. 'Good' she shouts at me and staggers off past me. I carry on walking. A couple of steps later she starts screaming 'cos if you were I'd be punching your !!!!ing face in now, !!!!!'. I try to just ignore it and keep walking but by now I'm cross so I turn round and say 'you need a psychiatrist, not a social worker' and walk off. Hence her chasing me up the road yelling 'what did you say' etc etc and then grabbing my arm and screeching at me.

Yeah I KNOW I shouldn't have said anything, but why should we have to just ignore crap like this and let them do what they want?

I would've said something too and more than likely said you can try if you want, if they threatened to punch my head in.

Actually it's not at all. It sounds stressful, and not in an area where you would expect it to happen. Your whole "fight or flight" reflex would have been in overdrive.

Can I suggest an attack alarm. They only cost about £3 and fix to your keys. They are really small and most have a torch on them too so you have an "excuse" for carrying them.

Please get yourself one. If anyone ever does "go fo you" let the thing off in their ear.
