Iphone 3gs on Orange & Virgin sim?
Hi all,
My daughter gave me her old Iphone 3gs which is on Orange,
I put my Virgin sim in last night thinking it would work but sadly not,
Do I need to get the phone unlocked or do I need a new sim card as mine is many years old now, I didn't want to go down one route and it be the other
I thought Orange, Virgin & T mobile used the same networks, is this not the case,
Many thanks
Jayne

Yes, you would need to get it unlocked. Even if the companies use the same network they're still independant and so they lock their phones.
You could do it yourself from home, but I don't think you're up to doing that. Take it to one of those independant mobile shops and be prepared to cough up up to £15 to get it unlocked.0 -

Wow! Thanks for the quick reply
What about going through Orange to unlock it, would it be better then going to one of the mobile shops or do they do the same job,
Many thanks for your help

Hi chappy
If your daughter contacts our Customer Service Helpdesk, they should be able to arrange for the phone to be unlocked for a one off charge of £20.42.
We might not be able to unlock the phone for yourself, as we can only do so for an Orange account holder who has had the phone registered in their name for at least three months.
I hope this helps!
