how did you explain to them the reasons as they seem to be telling me that i wont get anything at all. I explained that i was moving home to be closer to family for support as i suffer with depression but they told me it doesnt make any difference. Its so confusing, i dont know what to do at all.
I explained to them that my husband had been made redundant from his job and that we had taken the decision to move home to be nearer family, hence I could no longer keep my job in London as it would not be possible to commute there from our new location. I have to admit I was quite surprised when I got the JSA without any kind of problems.
It seems odd that you have asked them what would happen, with very similar circumstances to mine (in that you may be leaving your job to relocate) and they have told you won't get anything, when I had no problem. There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -

Sorry, re: the patronising comment - I was referring to OlderNot Wiser not you!
Sometimes I just hate these forums - it is sooooo easy to misread, misinterpret etc etc. I am sure we are all really lovely people!

ps Also should have said - so easy to write something quickly and then realise it doesn't say what you intended!0 -

My advice was perfectly genuine and based on my own experience of having to retire from a career because of depression. Living in the back of beyond on benefits will be the worst thing you can do for your mental health, believe me.
If you post on an open forum you need to take notice of all the advice you get, not just that which tallies with what you've already decided. Describing well meant advice as " patronising" just because it isn't what you want to hear is also pretty pointless.0 -

Abergele isn't the back of beyond. My in-laws live in Prestatyn. I would think that now would be a good time to go because of all the seasonal summer work available. There is also a large retired population there so if you could offer cleaning/ironing/garden care or care work, then that might help.0

By most people's standards it is!
Summer staff will have been recruited months ago, not in the middle of the summer season.0 -
Well...actually...my own personal impression from what you say is that there IS some sex discrimination going on.
I am NOT someone who comes out with this at every juncture - but it DOES feel like they are feeling extra resentful that it is a WOMAN who is getting better pay than they are...and that is simply not acceptable in this day and age.
I dont work/have never worked in a factory setting - but can imagine that the chance is much greater of finding men being sexist in their attitudes than I would ever encounter anywhere I have ever worked. To me - it sounds like that is what is happening and it is not on for them to be that way. It is - pure and simple - who is the best person to do the job (regardless of sex) end of...
From what you say - it doesnt sound to me as if you are going to be able to change their attitudes - there is a lot of them and only one of you (I guess there are no other women there in a similar situation???). So - you are best off out of it. It sounds as if you are too intelligent to accept neanderthal attitudes - and that is precisely what it sounds like you are getting in this place. The odds are very much against you making them "see sense" from what you see - and some fights arent winnable.
So - check out what that DWP adviser told you - because there is a very good chance that you were only talking to a low-level person who really doesnt know their job properly and/or was exercising a few personal prejudices.
Try to talk to someone "higher up" and to get information in writing. DO check out that distance/time it would take to get to work - because I would be willing to bet that it would be too much to expect someone to do to keep an existing job (even by the DWP very darn mean criteria applied).0 -
Don't bother to talk to the benefits agency themselves, their job is to quote the rules, which are if you make yourself unemployed you are not entitled to benefit.. You are not making yourself unemployed, you are moving house!
You need to speak to an independent benefits adviser, try the citizens advice.
If you are off sick you can claim statutory sick pay, this is not enough to live on so you would qualify for hb and ctb, if you move house while on these benefits your claim will be transferred to the new office.
Also, with doctors back up re injuries I would seriously consider a tribunal regarding their behaviour towards you. ACAS have a website and a telephone number and they will advise you. http://www.acas.org.uk0 -
Any chance of voluntary redundancy?0
