Cracked heels - what can I use?

Have been using a foot scrub, foot cream and a foot file to sort out my cracked heels. None of these are making a difference. Help!

With mines I find I have to steep them every night or if you can't manage that every second night for maybe 10/15 minutes in hot water. I then use an electric pumice stone for aslong as I can bare, wiping off the skin that comes off and re dipping in the water if necessary before using the pumice stone again. I then use Soap & Glory's "Heel Genius" on my heels and all over my feet and put a pair of cotton socks on to let it sink in.

It did take a good few weeks of doing this before my feet were in good condition and it needs to be maintained, I stopped and mines are as bad as ever again. I find sandals and ballet pumps make it alot worse also, not much good in this weather.

I get going with the Ped Egg on mine, 5 minutes once a week sorts them out (not good for cracked skin though, but works very well on hard skin).

You could also soften the skin on your feet and help keep them soft by putting your foot cream on before you go to bed, then wrapping your feet in clingfilm and popping socks over. Sleep in them and in the morning the cream will have sunk into your skin better.

If you feel your feet are really bad for cracked/dry skin, try Compeed for a while, then go to a chiropodist for a session with them - they can prepare your feet and get rid of the hard skin etc so it would be easier for you to maintain at home once its done.

Use vaseline every night, about 30 mins before going to bed so that it has time to soak in. Also second a trip to the chiropodist.

Only use foot file once a week, too often makes matters worse.

My chiropodist told me you need a cream that has urea in it like Flexitol or similar for cracked heels. General moisturising will definitely help. Instead of cling film, I'd recommend putting little plastic bags over your feet after creaming (like the ones you get loose fruit/veg in) they stay put better than cling film.

:beer:Flexitol is great but I got these socks in America a couple of years ago that have this gel inside on the heel and I wear those every so often and they keep my heels soft, cant remember what it is call though - think maybe made by Scholl? (sorry)
Once you have them soft, vaseline and cotton socks would be good substitute.

Agree with the vaseline :D Last year I used it everyday, at every opportunity I could and within a few days my heels were lovely and smooth.

You only need a thin layer (if you use it through the day) but maybe a bit more if you only use it once at night.

There was a telly advert some time last year I saw once, showing what looked like almost instant sorting out.... all I can remember is some woman in sling backs going up an escalator though :)

Thats the advert I watched that made me try vaseline :T I think it's Scholl possibly... could be wrong though.

How much water do you drink, proper sink hydration will assist big time.

Flexitol is the best IMO and I've tried them all!! Works in a couple of days.:D

I put it on every night and pop on socks for a bit (sleep in them if it's cold)

The best advice I was given is to stop wearing slingbacks - easier said than done in the summer but mine never split in the winter!
