Free PAYG sim to take abroad

I'm off on holiday to Ibiza in 4 weeks time and I don't want to take my current handset and sim in case it becomes lost or stolen.

Looking for a hassle free way to make a very small amount of calls and texts. I've got an old handset at the ready. Will a free UK PAYG sim work abroad?

I only want to spend £15 credit max.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It certainly should do - especially in Ibiza. As far as I know text charges are now capped within the EU, but I'm not sure about call charges, so you might want to be careful - still, with £15 credit you should be OK

Not all sims have roaming activated by default. Call the network before leaving to make sure that it is activated.

it's cheaper to get a sim card out there. £15 won't last you very long, especially if somebody phones you as you'll pay more than they do.
