Hi, my family and I are going to be staying in Prestatyn in August for 10 days and I'm looking for places to visit/things to do. My children are 12 & 10 and are boys. I would really like to do the big things - I'm sure there is a few in the North Wale, Manchester, Liverpool area, we are willing to travel. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

I wanted to go and do the Corrie tour, but upon googling it could not find any info- is it still going on?

Many, many thanks

Manchester is a long way out from Prestatyn, and I don't think the Corrie tour is on, anymore. Could be wrong.

I know N Wales well. What are you interested in.......wildlife, walking, zoos, beaches, stately homes, castles, narrow gauge railways......? I highly recommend Conwy town, the Gt Orme in Llandudno, the Ffestiniog Railway, and beaches around Prestatyn.

I haven't heard of the Corrie Tour, sorry. What do you mean by "the big things"?

Corrie tour has closed down and Manchester is a reasonable trek - if you come out of Wales itself Liverpool and Chester are better bets. Do your boys like football? If so you could do a tour of Anfield Stadium and the museum (unless of course they're Man Utd fans in which case that trek to Manchester would be better appreciated!)
Would definitely echo the suggestions of Chester Zoo and Blue Planet aquarium - the zoo alone could easily fill a whole day. Snowdon Mountain Railway is another good one, and Llangollen has a steam railway or horse drawn canal boat trips. If the weather is good pop along to Anglesey - there's a castle at Beaumaris and some of the most gorgeous beaches you could wish for. There's also GreenWood Forest Park which your boys are the perfect age for.
You really are spoilt for choice in that area - I hope the weather stays nice for you :)
  • I'd add two more.
    Delamere Forest and Jodrell Bank.

Def recommend Conwy, Sealife centre Rhyl,Rhyl sunlife centre, Snowdonian - thou I would say unless your going to be walking up + that you need to prebook your tickets, I took DD last year, and it was £40 something like that for the 2 of us, we had bad weather, luck of the draw...

If they like a beach where you can drive on, (pebble beach), sea, space bats, ball, frisbies etc - go out of Prestatyn past Rhyl, over the main bridge, past Tir Prince (thats a big market there at weekends and a funfair (not the best), and carry on down the main road, - to Pensarn, just before a big island, by sommerfield, great for a day out,

Up by Snowdon is also underground mining, - if you have a sat nav, and you put in code for Snowdonian, leads you to the slate place, (2 miles from snowdon railway).

Conwy castle, boat trips from the bay of Conwy.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

Hi, thank you all so much for your suggestions. Regarding where we are staying it's going to be a mix of Pontins (I know, I know did not read trip advisor reviews until after I'd booked it! Considering paying more to go club class!) travel lodge and local hotels! We are due to be at pontins the 22nd to 26th August, but we are leaving home, Cambridge on the 20th and I've booked us into the travel lodge near the Hollywell farm park as I'm want to go to a WW2 ration demonstration there and there will be plenty to do for my boys! On the Sunday we are going to be staying in Rhyl at the kensington and are going to the theatre.
However hubbie has now decided that he is going to take until Tuesday following week off and wants to travel from the Friday to Tuesday night around the Welsh coastline and come home via that route............... I've no idea of distance etc so today will be spent planning that route- again any suggestions on places to visit on the Welsh coast?!

Many, many thank yous for your fab suggestions so far.
