Finally getting bathroom re-fitted: the journey

I promised Diable that I'd post about my bathroom refurb after he kindly kept us all up to date with his transformation. Well it's starting tomorrow with ripping out the current bathroom and WC, knocking the two spaces together and adding some space from the landing to square off the room.
Initially we had the space planned out for us by a local bathroom firm, and they wanted around £18k+ for the job. I wasn't prepared to pay that much for a bathroom (as lovely as it looked on the plans), so kept the concept in my head and in MSE style decided to source everything myself. So I've managed to pretty much get everything together including getting a plumber and builder in to do the work for around £7k.
I shall use this thread to keep you all updated with pix and descriptions as the work goes on and answer questions if anyone has any. Hopefully this will give folk an insight to how sourcing materials yourself and taking some time to shop around to get a better deal is worth the effort. If I can save £11k then it's got to be worth doing.:D

Right then, the chaps have arrived and are setting themselves up to start knocking the wall down between the WC and the bathroom. I've taken some pix of how it looks now and how it's set out.
This is the view from the landing, the bathroom door is straight ahead (showing the shower) and to the left is the door to the WC
Positioning of WC and bathroom doors
The WC in all its splendour
View from the bathroom door showing shower and rear window
View of the basin and bath from the shower
Basin and door into bathroom
Bath and delightful tiling
Corner of bath and rear window
Rear window and shower
Edge of shower, rad and door
So that's the layout and what it looked like before, there's also two layers of tiles to get through too.
The room should finish up around 3m by 2.5m and the plan is one side will be loo, vanity units and sinks and the other side will be a lovely large walk in shower. We don't bathe in this house and don't intend to move for a very long time so decided to dispense with the bath as it doesnt get used. A large walk in shower with built in seat at one end will be just great, and I cannot wait to take my first shower in it once it's all finished!0 -
So I have a mini update already....
Tiles are off the walls, tongue and groove ceiling is gone and the bath panel and shower have gone. Wall coming out next.0 -

The builder is going to love you hovering behind him snapping away with your camera.
Hope it goes well"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -
Clive, I took the pix when he had left the house to go and get the jack hammer from the hire shop. When I have workmen in the house I leave them to it and only disturb them to ask if they want a cuppa!0

Are you leaving the old plaster on the walls?
Looks knackered and needs to be stripped back
12.5mm plasterboard dot and dabbed to wallHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

You would get a better finish hacking it all off and dot and dabbing plasterboard onto bare walls, leave bare board for tiling and skim only where decoration
Will leave a flat and stable substrate suitable for tiling up to the weight of 32kg per sqmHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0
