I have just bought ADVENT laptop from PCWORLD and i am having trouble setting up wireless connection on it, it has a wireless card in but it is not picking up my wireless linksys router, theres no sign of it unless i put my belkin wireless USB into the laptop from my computer(which uses wireless internet) that is the only way i can get internet on the laptop.
UPDATE- internet is working right now because the modem/router/laptop are connected together, i used the linksys cd to install the drivers and it says that it cannot detect the router even when all lights are flashing and router is perfectly fine and working, i am typing from my computer right now which uses the belkin wireless USB and is connected on wireless with the linksys router and laptop is being used downstairs but the router cable is connected to it, now i am not getting anything like 'wireless network detected', as soon as i dis-connect the router from the laptop, it is no longer connected to the internet but when i use my BELKIN wireless usb with the laptop, it detects the linksys router and i am then connected to the internet, i am 100% user that there is a wireless card in the laptop.
I have been trying to contact linksys through 5 numbers i have found online and at the back of linksys booklet, my router is not new but it is only 6 months old, apparantly there was an earthquake on the south pacific area and thats why i am unable to get through to linksys via telephone

I set up a Dlink Wireless router a few months back i done all that the instructions told me too and hey presto no joy LOL. anyway to cut a long story short i found when i eventually did get through to the sutomer services (some dude in Canada) he was really helpful and had me up and running wireless in minutes. Sorry i cant offer more constructive help than that but i have no experience of that particular brand of router. you just have to fiddle around in the preferences...is your network secure and maybe it isnt letting your lappy get in cos of a network key...???
maybe the laptop has a physical swith on it to trun on and off the wireless card mine does.........???0 -
Which router is it?? Which Belkin USB is it???0

What type of wireless card is in the laptop (Intel/Broadcom)0

Just did a quick check and there seems to be a problem with old firmware and some wireless devices not seeing the router... Could you check you have the latest version or at least tell me what version of the router and firmware you have and I will check it.0

What Advent model number is it?
Repeating Paul_R's advice, make sure the built-in wireless is enabled. This is usually done with a switch or function key, e.g. Fn + F2. Also, as it's a new laptop, get all critical Windows updates.0 -
Advent 7109A , so i press the Fn F2 keys together right? I dont know what firmware is sorry.. but the router is linksys WRT54G and i will check the wireless card for you but i think it is probably intel because it is an intel celeron processor
