Hi folks,
Looking to book flights from Ireland/UK to Australia via Dubai and then back from Australia.
Looking to go anytime (cheapest!) Jan/Feb/March 2012.
I have been searching for a few hours and cheapest i can find is about £1700 per person? Does that sound about right or does anyone have any tips?
Thanks

That time of the year particularly Jan and Feb are expensive.
Also will depend on where you are going to in Australia do you also have to travel via Dubai.
I have done several journeys back and forth from Australia to different parts and have gone through Hong Kong or Singapore as well as Dubai.
You can definitely travel for less than that I have never paid that much.
I have flown with cathay pacific, emirates, singapore and jetstar. So theres plenty of option.
Can you give us anymore info.0 -
it can be expensive, esp at peak times, I was much higher than that when I was pricing for Xmas last year.
taxes add a fortune on to that journey now, have you tried expedia - I wouldnt tend to book though them but useful for identifying and comparing pricing
Or ring Trailfinders tomorrow, or send them a query, I have always found them good for long haul0 -

Thanks for the comments, what more info would you like?
I have a sister who is in Aus for a year so dont have to pay for accom. Can fly out any time really from December 2011 to May 2012 but dont have much cash at the min so looking for cheapest flights possible. Would really like to stop in Dubai on the way for a few days if possible. They will be in Melbourne so flying to there or near there.
I was using Kayak to search for flights.0 -
I was just wondering whether or not you had to go definitely via Dubai or whether you could try another country, length of time etc via Dubai usually restricts you to Emirates. Whereabouts in Australia etc different destinations have different carriers. We lived in Cairns and opted to do a direct 7hr flight from Hong kong rather than 14 hrs via Brisbane or sydney
I was on Emirates website earlier today and a return ticket from Newcastle to Brisbane via Dubai in Feburary was coming in at £1057.
Try directly with the airlines or as someone suggester Trailfinders.
Hope that helps0 -
ebookers is also a good search site for cheap flights

No not essential that I stop in Dubai, just that always wanted to go there and thought it could be cheaper to do it now when going to Aus anyway as opposed to a different holiday. Could stop anywhere really if it meant flights were considerbly cheaper?
But do have to get to Melbourne in Aus0 -
have a look on the Emirates site - they operate Dubai to Melbourne. They don't have flights to Dubai from Ireland but looking at starting in Manchester you can get flights including your stop in Dubai (in both directions if you like) for £1015...and, although I have not flown with them, they do have a good reputation
Various other starting points in the UK0 -
I tried emirates and was getting prices at £3000! What dates did you search?0

Emirates website, LGW to MEL in Feb is £998 each. Always search the actual websites of the airlines, they are usually much cheaper, Qantas too (although they don't stop in DBX).
Have no idea where you're searching to get £3000! I've never paid more than around £650 for return flights to MEL with Qantas. That's without a stopover, though - I don't see the point of stopping unless you actually want to see the city you're stopping in. It's quite exhausting to stopover, compared to doing a straight flight.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0
