Where to hire a shipping container

Hello All,

We hope to move in the next few weeks (Finally!) and will be going over 400 miles away. We will be moving in to a rented house until we find somewhere we'd like to buy.

Looking at our options for the actual move itself we have heard there are companies which will deliver a shipping container to your address, you then have X amount of days to fill it before it is then taken to a storage area. Then when you've decided on the final destination they deliver it for you to unpack.

This sounds ideal for our situation but I'm unable to find anything online.

Anyone know any companies that do this?

Probably much cheaper to use a removal and storage company, or even self store. You can buy shipping container if you have somewhere to park it
Sorry I can't answer you basic question though.

Using a normal removals company and their storage would be what most people do. They turn up and put your stuff into big solid wooden crates in the rear of their removals lorries. You normally get two crates per lorry I think it is. They are then sealed and taken away.

They then take them into their storage depot where they're all piled high. When you know where you're going you phone them up and ask them to deliver. If you can bear to be without half your stuff, or missing random items, you can cut down on the cost by asking them if they do a "part load"... this means that instead of you picking the date and getting all your stuff in one go, they will tell you when they're coming and you'll get one crate at a time. What they do is use their spare capacity to bring yours when they're in the area... we're talking maybe 1-2 days difference between first crate and last - and usually the week you want.... you're just not going to be able to choose the day or know what's coming. Pickfords do this, I've used it.
