Hi all
I would like to move to a reliable email provider. I have a Gmail account, but I don't want to use it for personal matters.
I am not happy with my personal info being stored somewhere in the USA - coming under foreign laws / jurisdiction -
and having my mails retained by default, rather than deleted, when I POP/SMTP them
(and I recently had the Gmail account hacked by someone in HongKong).
Yahoo and Hotmail, as I understand it, are also US-based.
Can anyone recommend a provider in the UK which gives a reliable service, good download speed,
an easy-to-use online GUI, no limit on size, and is not linked to an ISP?
I would pay a few £ (preferably once-off) for a good service.
TIA, hopefully ...

The US actually has tighter DPA laws than here at the moment they will not supply information to those outside the US.
It's not really where the company is based its where the servers are. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
Yes - it's where the servers are that bothers me more..
It's not that I don't trust Google (as far as one can trust any organisation).. but I don't believe any organisation is as secure as I would like!!0 -
You'll probably want a paid for provider with hosting in the UK by the sounds of it.
The likes of 34sp.com will provide you with email hosting as part of a hosting package, but any service that is worth it's salt will cost you money on a regular basis, especially if you want to know that the servers aren't hosted the US (most free services host where the servers are cheapest - which is usually the US).
IIRC 34sp start at about £20 a year for a basic package without a domain name (hosted in the UK), add another £5+ per year for a personal domain and more for additional services.0
