He did say they export about 10-12 cars at a time, and he didn't turn up with a trailer, but he had arranged temporary insurance (brought the cover note).
All very odd, but looks like it worked out in my favour in the end.
 Good result for you.0

Sounds good. I think I would have been too suspicious and called it off as a scam, but it's hard to see how this can be.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. It's a scam!
The cashier was in on it!
 The notes will dissolve!
 Etc, etc, etc.
On a serious note, well done OP.0

 You've all missed the point.
The OP is the scammer, he made up the whole thread which he will show to his next victim. 0 0

Well done OP, I had a feeling it was legit. This is nonsense. The export has nothing to do with the seller.
As far as the seller is concerned, it's an absolutely standard sale and he just needs to send off the notification of new keeper.
It's then the buyer's responsibility to send of the notification of export if and when he exports it.
I must be wrong, as I'm only going from experience and what the DVLA told me to do.
The vehicle is being exported, the DVLA do not need to know that it's sat in a yard for a week or so.0

And the moral of the story is???
Not everyone is out to Scam everyone else, and a little effort (As the OP did with the Bank checking the notes etc), you can do 'unusual' deals.
Good news OP, after sticking up for teh buyer earlier, I was dreading this being a scam!0

The thing I found most unusual about all this is that the buyer himself wasn't more cautious. If he does a lot of this (and he said he did) then I'd have expecting him to have been scammed a good few times if he's in the habit of sticking £500 in notes into strangers' bank accounts. You're my badger now Dave.0

True, though he probably has to pay in a reasonable sum of money to gain peoples trust.
Must admit it seems I was wrong about this, but happy to do so - it's good to see something like this actually working out for all involved.0

Whilst it’s not something I would do I guess his deposit system works because most sellers are not thieves who are going to run off with the deposit.
Along the same lines, most buyers are not scammers and most sellers are not insanely paranoid about being ripped off although reading some of the posts on this thread you’d think otherwise.0
