Do you think the flat rate platinum would have the same facility? I was thinking of getting one of those anyway to (kind of) replace my cahoot flexible loan facility which I've cancelled (in disgust). Does anyone have one and able to confirm - thanks.

Identical application criteria are relevant to the Flat Rate Platinum card as those relevant to the Platinum Advantage card: "All we ask is that you earn at least £25,000 a year, are at least 25 years old and currently hold a credit card".

So, I suspect that the Flat Rate Platinum may well come with a £250 cheque guarantee facility; the card also looks identical (the last bit is only slightly more tendentious in terms of reasoning). Think it would be best to check before applying though, if no answers to the question are forthcoming.

Is there a monthly fee for the account? Are you able to apply for a 250 servicecard online? Cheers.

Another potential, and slightly less straightforward, solution would be to apply for a Co-operative Bank Platinum Advantage Credit Card which comes with a cheque guarantee facility of £250. Then, apply for the standard current account that has no monthly fee - unfortunately no interest on balances though. A fee-free solution.
Would this card guarantee a Smile cheque?

Barclaycards will guarantee a Barclays Bank cheque... assuming they are in the same name.

  • I would urge you NOT TO USE CREDIT CARD CHQ there are a lot of charges related to it...2.5% is charged for any transaction and APR is similar to a cash advance !!!

... you can have a 250 servicecard with a regular current account ie no Advantage Gold fees - I have one. Dunno about online applications.
