How do I work out how much pea shingle I need?
I've marked off a circular area to be made into a pathway which I plan to line with weed suppressant fabric (got that) and top with pea shingle.
I pushed a stick into the ground and with string and a cane drew my circle in the soil (the length of string was 15ft). Then, using a cane for a measure, then drew another circle approx 18"-2ft outside the original circle.
Not sure how much pea shingle I need to buy to cover the "path" area (the distance between the two circular shapes).
I know Wyevale has their stones at half price a bag e.g. £2.50 and I'm not quite certain how much a bag would cover. Or even if this is the cheapest option?
Any and all advice much appreciated. TIA

Does this help, it's a bit similar.

The area you need to cover, assuming the path is a full circle, is close enough to 9sqm, so if you cover to a depth of 5cm, that would be about 650kg of 10mm or 20mm shingle. It seems a lot, a bag of shingle doesn't go far when on the ground!0

A tonne bag covers an area of approximately 10 square metres to a depth of 2 inches - so much cheaper to get the bag delivered from your local builders merchant.Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0

None. Pea shingle is small and rounded so it moves around when stepped on. Its small size also means it gets spread everywhere. Its just not a suitable material for a path or drive IMVHO.
For a path or drive I would look at slate or an angular gravel that 'bites' when stepped/driving on instead of your foot/tyre sinking into the material.
For any material you don't need/want to go too deep - this is especially true if you choose the pea shingle.
Make sure the ground is level - even it out with soil and then pack down so the depth of gravel is the same across the area.
Unless you get a special deal on the small bags, the big bags always work out cheaper -even if you have some left over at the end.0 -

Just checking:
Inner circle is 15ft radius. Area = 15 x 15 x 3.14 = 706.5 sq ft
Outer circle is 17ft radius. Area = 17 x 17 x 3.14 = 907.5 sq ft
Difference is 201 sq ft = 18.7 sq metres.
As a double check the circumfrence of the inner circle is roughly 2 x 3.14 x 5 = 31 metres. The path is about 0.6 metres wide. 31 x 0.6 = 18.6 sq metres.0
