Did it for about 3 years.

Was rare to come across a job where you had to pack absolutley everything but it did happen occassionally.

Really wasn't bothered about going through nightwear, knickers or pet rabbits.

Priority was geting it boxed, taped, loaded and ketting the gettle on for a well deserved brew.

Much like a doctor, I've seen it all before.

The ones we've used have always packed everything and I mean everything. In one case an ashtray was packed along with its fag butts and the rubishbin complete with rubbish. After three months in transit and customs unpacking that one was not a pleasant experience.

What is it with girls and underwear? I can't believe you do not have time to put them in a bag?

Not all men are perverts. I certainly would not want to handle used undies ............ ladies or gents.

OP - just make sure you remove all the batteries. You don't want any buzzing to give the movers a reason to open boxes you would rather they didn't ;)

Yes, this was kind of my point! Wondering whether it was ok to expect them to pack undies etc, or whether you were expected to do that yourself.

Also, I'm not talking about a drawer full of knickers (which will be moved in the drawer anyway) - it's about half a wardrobe full of hanging items. Which I want to go in the hanging wardrobe thingies they bring.

Was gonna suggest the suitcase thing too. They packed for us, but I had a couple of cases full of 'personal stuff' (blimey, I sound like Belle de wotsit lol). We also had an 'essentials box' which we kept out until the end.

Believe me though, if it ain't nailed down, packed in an essentials box or hidden in a case, they'll pack it. Even our handsoap was packed early on when they packed up the bathroom - a nightmare when you're trying to do a last minute clean once the place is empty. Pack a loo roll, soap, etc in with your essentials.

They'll be in and out like whirlwinds. I thought we'd be directing them where to go with things the other end too, but they were just so quick, most of them were just lugging boxes up and down stairs. They asked about the big furniture - ours is now on four floors, so they made sure the biggies were on the right floor.

Agree, anything you know you'll need immediately, pack into your car before they even turn up (presuming you have one) or keep with your essentials.

I must be weird - we had a packing service last time and I decided they were the experts and let them pack everything! Didn't even occur to me to separate out my pants - I think they just emptied all the drawers of pants, socks etc. into a box, so not too traumatic for the poor lambs!

We helped with things where we decided technique was not so important (making the tea, and we did a bit of taking apart flat pack furniture) - but my OH was at work on the main packing day, and I was doing bits of work from home and had to go out to pick up the keys to the new house. Other than that I spent most of my time cleaning our rental so we didn't have to go back for too long for the final cleaning after the move - so I just let them get on with the packing while I wielded my scrubbing brush at the kitchen cupboards etc.

We had packers too - we had a small case with all the bits we wanted to pack ourselves (passports etc. which our firm wouldn't touch, paperwork, keys) and we kept this in our car.

We also put all the things we'd need overnight on the beds (we were moving the next day).

We kept a sturdy plastic box in the kitchen to put the kettle, mugs etc. in once we finished up at one house and dashed to the next.

    Good luck

i loved having packers.... it makes the move soooo much easier. Label the boxes yourself so that you know where everything is at the other end. If you really are precious about knickers, then ask for a couple of boxes ahead of time and pack those yourself.
