When a removal company packs for you...

....do you just sit back and let them do EVERYTHING? or do you do some things yourself? (I'm thinking undies etc...)
Feels so weird and wrong to think of someone else packing all my stuff, but it's going to be necessary as we'll have absolutely no time to do it ourselves.
(please don't laugh at me for this q!)

My partner's had a full pack done each time he's moved and he says "yeah, they just do EVERYTHING"... but as I said, it feels strange to me!0 -
you can ask for a couple of personal boxes. We've used them to pack undies (which they take) and valuables (which we take)"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

If it is in a chest of drawers they dont pack it. Just move it in the cupboard. Clothes get put in cardboard wardrobes.
I have had packers a few times. They have been more mature men (I assume as they can't do the heavy removals anymore)
My knickers arrived fine. We took personal valuable to us items and pets ourselves in the car .June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -

I'm thinking particulalry of the section of my wardrobe that contains frilly nighties (etc).....I think I'd at least need to be out of the room when the removal men lifted them into the cardboard wardrobes!
Wasn't really thinking about things not arriving fine, that hadn't crossed my mind...just really my own blushes! I suppose they've seen it all before, right?!0 -
You should pack anything really private/personal into one box you seal yourself (diaries, jewellery, panties) ... as for the rest, let them get on with it. I usually sit on a sofa and watch... then, once you know they've no more questions, pop out for a wander down the road... it's tough watching people work.
They really don't want you helping; they're insured, they know what they're doing, they have a system - and you'd muck up their system.0 -
you can definitely sit back & watch, but pop up every hour on the hour to make cups of tea all round!"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

The first time they did it, I let them get on with it and it took the better part of two days. The second time I asked them for boxes and packed it all up myself to save time. They came before 9am and had all the boxes moved into our new house by noon. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0

Write out a list of everything you want to take yourself (kettle, milk, coffee, bedding, decent jewellery, underwear...:)), keep the stuff out of the way, tell them not to pack it, and take it in your car. Put what you can in the boot in advance.0

My wife has them pack most of her clothes but she bags her underwear first and packs all those ridiculously overpriced handbags herself. God forbid something gets creased, squashed or handles get bent out of shape!
I don't care about mine (underwear not handbags!)
Usually the removal company offers to drop off some regular and hanging wardrobe boxes a few days prior to the move for clothes. We've never taken them up on it but it shows that certainly some people prefer not to have others handle their clothes.
So if that's the way you want to do it, they'll think it's perfectly normal. It'll save you some money too.0 -
You are the boss, you are paying for a service, you decide...good luck in your new home.0
