Buying a Travelex Globe Card with a debit card

Firstly, I know there are numerous threads on this card already, but I've started a new one because I wan't to clarify this specific point. I have a Barclays Visa connect card, and I have been informed that I will face a charge if I use my connect card to buy the Globe Card.
Has anyone used their Debit card to purchase the globe card or reload it and where you charged a handling fee? Could you also state which bank you used as I am seriously considering moving banks. Sick of Barclays anyway and to charge me to buy a card loaded with sterling is a joke.
Thanks for any help.

Probably best to call Barclays to confirm. 0844 811 9111 24 hours. Use Say no to 0870 for alternative number.0

I did do, she said I wouldn't. then when I explained the T&C's she put me on hold, came back and said I would. Nice and clear information. Think it's time for a change of bank, hence trying to find out a bank that doesn't charge to buy and top up the globe card.0 -

You should have left it at where she said that you would not. At that point you should have taken her details and then if you were charged you could claim the charges back; stating that you were told otherwise.
Don't forget to purchase via Top Cashback or Quidco in order to get 0.5% of your initial spend back.0 -
I can confirm that NatWest charge to buy this card with sterling... apparently ANY transaction in a bureau de change attracts a fee!
I knew I should have used my HSBC card, but I had limited funds in that account and not enough time to do anything about it

This was definitely for the Globe card?
If so, personally, I would challenge that fee. I simply would not accept that I would have to pay extra to transfer my money to another UK institution. Why is it different from paying a bill or simply purchasing any item in Pounds.
I would demand a refund or off to the Ombudsman we go.
I hope you ordered through Quidco.

Definitely, 100% the globe card.
Ordered via topcashback... I don't rate quidco's fees!
I was planning on disputing it, but my searches brought up this T&Cs page: http://www.natwest.com/personal/current-accounts/g4/cards/abroad.ashx - under the 'important information' tab.
Where it states - Transactions in the UK, in sterling, in any bureau de change displaying the visa logo, there will be a 1.5% charge (min £2, max £4.50).
If it's written in, although it appears unfair, i'm not sure I could argue WHY it's unfair.0 -

Good that you got cashback either way.
I would not accept it. I'll explain why:
There are two relevant sections, one for cash withdrawals and the other for purchases.
Clearly the first is aimed at you entering into a premises and withdrawing cash from any outlet with a VISA logo and the second is aimed at purchases of foreign currency or traveller's cheques using a Visa Debit card
Your transaction is a purchase, not a cash withdrawal and you did not purchase foreign currency or Travellers cheques.
They are trying it on. The longer they drew it out, the more recompense I would expect.
As an aside, NatWest is really the bank from hell when it comes to foreign usage. Those fees are ludicrous.0
