Rubber Chicken

Do you mean as in a formal meal?
In North America, rubber chicken is a term used to describe meals served at political, fundraising, charity dinners. They are usually chicken, fairly bland and over priced.0 -
How big are these chickens that last for days?
I buy a medium and it does a roast for 3/4 with maybe a leg left over for lunch, I can't imagine getting more meals out of it, unless I only give everyone a slice or two with the roast.
And another thing I've always wondered, once it's been roasted once doesn't it go really dry if you then cook it again in another meal like stir fry or curry?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

This is what I have always found when I have reused roast chicken in a stir fry/curry etc - dry and funny texture, certainly not the texture that you would expect in that meal. That is one of the reasons I don't 'get' rubber chicken. I just buy a chicken that is the right size for one dinner and then some leftovers for one lunch (sandwiches or with salad) and that's it really!0 -

Hello everyone.
Six weeks ago, I found employment again after a few months off and today was pay day!! August and July's money (as I started late July)
Anyway, for my first pay day I celebrated extravagantly and spent £21 on an approx 3kg Free Range Chicken, which is probably expensive, but I thought....why not!
Anyway, it's on cooking now and it got me to thinking - there are 3 of us, so plenty is going to be left and my question to you guys is - what shall I do with the rest to make as much out of this as possible?
None of us eat bread - I can't due to health reasons and the other two stopped eating out of sympathy for me I think!
We could have some cold for tomorrows meal, but are their any other ideas? What can I do with the carcass? Stock?
Many thanks for any ideas - I don't eat spicy food, although if their are any spicy ideas, it could be good for the other two, but for us all to enjoy together, it needs to be spiceless.
Thanks for any help (and if anybody knows of anywhere - online or in Somerset) where I can get good quality free range meats froma reputable supplier, please let me know

make stock with the carcass, make a chicken salad tomorrow or some version of fishcakes but with chicken, or chicken risotto, chicken and leek pie, chicken pasties, chicken stew...the list is endless....
what do you like?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Congratulations on the job! You must be thrilled.
I'd be making stock and doing a chicken risotto with scraps of meat, but a 3kg chicken should do you quite a few meals. If in doubt, freeze the stock (or just the carcass if you don't have time to make the stock) and the leftover meat while you decide what to make.
