appliances required for new kitchen ... any reccomendations

Options
Wayhey - we are getting a new kitchen! :-)

I need
  • a new fridge freezer (hubbie wants american style - but I may be able to sway him to a different one if it looked good enough)
  • A new cooker (could be range, freestanding or separate hob/oven)
  • an integrated dishwasher
Any recommendations for brands to go for/steer clear of and any reccomendations for reputable online suppliers of appliances for a good price?

Any advice gratefully received :-)

    Hi weegie
We've just kitted out our kitchen and I did quite a lot of bargain hunting around the net.
I found search sites such as 'offeroftheday' and 'properprice' to be pretty handy once I knew the specific make/model number of the appliance.

I also found out that a lot of the retailers selling bigger appliances were happy to keep the item for 4 weeks or more until we were ready for delivery.

Remember to sign up for cashback sites - and keep an eye out for voucher codes as these saved me £100s.

I'm happy with the appliances I have apart for a couple of minor gripes.
    1. Our semi-integrated bosch dishwasher (smi69t15gb) required us to send away for a metal strip costing £45 as a standard appliance door isn't a proper fit
    2. Our Rangemaster cooker hood (leihdc90bc) is so noisy even on its lowest setting that we'll rarely use it.

    Hope that helps.
    Good Luck

we've had a hotpoint fridge/freezer, built in indesit oven, indesit dishwasher & indesit washing machine all from a place called Jual Domestics (google it).

Never had any problems & they were the cheapest.

Forgot to add - we had a flat 'touch control' ceramic hob off ebay brand new for £160. It looked fab for the first few months but not so practical now - easy to burn self on (and children if you have any) as takes about 15mins to cool down. Shows up marks especially when things burn to it, so I personally would not recommend one of these hobs.

If your hood is that noisy you should have range master out to it, their hoods are no noisier than any other make.

Really? They are doddle to clean. Yeah things burn to it, just like would with any cooker but use the special hob cleaner and it's gone. My hob is over 2 years old and looks as good as new. Had a freestanding cooker before with ceramic glass hob for 10 years before and that one always looked spotless.

OP, I can recommend Neff and Siemens. And Bosch. My Siemens fridge is amazing, particularly love the cool drawer for meats and fish, stuff literally never goes off in it. You can find loads of deals online.

I would stay clear of Whirlpool, Indesit, Zanussi, Hotpoint and Electrolux. And boards here are full of Samsung american fridges complaints.
Had several of those appliances over the years, despite some of them costing loads (my Zanussi cooker springs to mind where top oven broke after two years), none of them lasted long enough.

We got out kitchen through Howdens and used their cheap-end Lamona hob, oven and extractor. Our hob is a little niggly - but very happy with the oven and extractor.

We didn't use integrated appliances. If your hubby wants a big fridge-freezer I would get one. If you found yours a little small you'd always be thinking - we should have gone bigger!

They aren't integrated but we bought a Samsung dishwasher (which is my favourite thing ever!) and a Hoover washer dryer which is alright.

I found the best website was http://www.bootskitchenappliances.com/ Their Reward Points are very good.

Many thanks for the reccomendations and thoughts....

I've discovered Jual domestics from quite a few searches, but their is also a thread in here about them...with some negative feedback. Unfortunately it might be one company that i have to avoid.

We're just back from a holiday where the holiday home had a lamona cermic hob which I was pleasantly surprised with. My own gas hob in the house is a mess with stains that i cant get out....the ceramic hob was so much easier to keep clean and surprisingly good to use. I'd love a rangemaster but my budget won't stretch to a brand new one :-(

never thought of looking on offer of the day so gonna start watching that as well :-)

A rangemaster Range cooker is definitely something worth stretching a budget for if you want a range cooker, it's just not worth getting a cheaper range, not only is the build quality of a rangemaster better, the quality of components used is also higher.

My kitchen fitter has a trade arrangement with Magnet. They should have a trade showroom - similar but cheaper than the normal retail kitchens! My only quibble is I went for a budget package - which included Candy equipment. DO NOT BUY CANDY! I'm not happy withy any of their appliances but mainly the oven - the door exploded one day - a replacement oven smokes and burns stuff and the knobs on the hob broke within a year. Also would steer clear of Hotpoint washers. It can be difficult to clean the filter and mine went to the great washing machines in the sky after 3 years. Have previously had an Indesit and it was great.

I shall probabaly use Boots Electricals to buy mine. I need a 5 ring gas hob, electric double oven, dish washer & cooker hood. Prices are competitive & if you have a Boots Advantage card you'll get some ££ back with the points you earn (4 points per £1 you spend). That is money saving!

I'd steer clear of integrated appliances unless you really hate the look of freestanding. They are usually more expensive and smaller capacity.

The built in fridge freezer in my kitchen annoys me every day!

John Lewis often include an extra year or two guarantee to white goods so it may be worth checking whether a higher price from them is outweighed by the extra guarantee period.
