Gas piping stolen

There are four flats in one house.
The place is a joke.
We each have our separate building insurance cover. Really it should all be done with one company through the landlord/freeholder.
I am with Castle cover. I think the building excess is £50. I can’t even afford that really.
Should I claim or get a friend to do it cheaply?
Never claimed off any insurance company before. My next yearly premium is due soon. Won’t they increase it?
Or maybe I’ll just leave it. Ask for a rebate on what’s left on the meter and close the account with British gas. No supply, I can’t access their product.
The meter is positioned in a stupid place, right at foot of the front wall, rather than around the side. If they come again and rip the meter out it would be really dangerous.
What a life!
Thank you for your replies. It helps.0 -

Whoever you spoke to at BG is a complete idiot.
You have a very dangerous situation that needs making safe immediately.
The number to call in your case is 0800 111 999, and they will come out at any time of the day, and they will do the job foc. ( making safe, not installing a whole new gas supply )
CALL NOW! unless it is has already been made safe by a rgi.0 -

Paint any outside copper in bitumen paint, it makes it not worth the work to steal ,
I should have done that with my jetwash yesterday.
i got my jetwash out to clean my drive and went inside for a brew and when i came back outside it had gone someone had stolen it.
goes to show you cannot leave anything out now.:mad:0 -
op do not get a friend to do it - it should be done by a gas safe registered installer or you would negate your insurance should there be any problems not to mention put yourself and others at risk.
I know it is not cheap call around get quotations but you cannot put a price on your safety as there is a lot more that just attaching a copper pipe involved.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Thank you for your replies.
Will go through the insurance company and get it done properly.
Will definitely use the bitumen paint. Wish I knew about that before.
Sorry to hear about your jetwash energysavingexp. What people don’t realize is that we create the world we live in and were creating a hellish world.
Keep smiling.0 -
I have taken onboard all your advice and have taken out a claim reference number with the insurance company.
But one last try in order to save my no claims situation.
I have a friend who is a plumber (not gas safe registered) who fitted a new boiler for me about 3 years ago. We were going to get some certificate but that didn’t transpire.
He has looked at the lost piping and says it’s easy to do, just fit the pipe and check the pressure at the meter. It would only cost me 8 or 9 meters of piping.
Can I get him to do that and then get a gas-registered person to come and check it and give me a certificate?
I want to sell this property.
Thank you.0 -
Legally, it is rather questionable.michael432000 wrote: »Can I get him to do that and then get a gas-registered person to come and check it and give me a certificate?
Practically, only a complete cowboy would be willing to sign it off. That in turn means that you would be putting your safety as well as your wallet in the hands of a cowboy.
Probably not the wisest course of action.0
