Yeah thats just the way that I would see it too!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
HI don't know if this is relevant, but our neighbour has a severley disabled son and they have recently had a disabled parking bay put outstide their house, and it can't be used by just any blue badge as it has the number of the badge on the post and sign, it says something like
"For the sole us of badge number *********"
So if our council can do it then so can your's give them a call.0 -
could you convert the front garden, get the kerb lowered? I had this done by the council (you have to pay for the kerb lowering) in a previous house...0

we do not have afront garden, only a back garden which is shared with my upstairs neighbour (gff).
I have sent an email to the council asking for if the grass verges could possibly be removed. Please remember to say Thank You if I help you0 -
I've seen our council paint a disabled parking bay outside of a house - 'for use of (house number) only'.0

My friend's mum is disabled and the council not only marked the roadside outside of their house but also supplied them with a metal plaque to attach to their wall.
Since the cul de sac is for council property tenants, it's likely to be council owned highway as oppose to a private estate developer who owns and therefore has full control of the use and maintenance of the road, curbs, pavements and green areas within it.
I used to work in the housing dep't of a council and our council had a duty of care to give particular assistance to disabled residential users of it's highway property.Integrity is a dying art!:p0 -
Hi PinkPrincess,
I am on high rate Dla mobility - indefinately, and a 'blue badge' holder.
My neighbours next door have 2 sons with cars plus their own - 3 in total.
Often 2 cars were parked on road and other on pavement outside our house.
Despite being disabled, I continue to work, but it was a problem for my local transport to pick me up and drop me as near to my house as was possible.
I didn't want to fall out with my neighbours, or offend them in any way, but it was really difficult when I had visitors too.
I phoned my local council (West Midlands) and asked how much it would be to have a front drive = £4000 which I do not have:(
But council suggested to have a white line directly outside our house would cost £80that was a better quote. So I ordered it May 05, at end of call lady asked me did I have a disability I said yes with mobility. I was then informed to have a 'disabled parking' lot put on the road outside our house was FREE
It was completed in Sept 05 and I'm very pleased:) Neighbours not so happy they didn't realise the extent of my probs (I walk aided by a stick) Neighbours then started parking on pavement outside our house BUT also in the disabled spot. I didn't say or do anything but just gritted my teeth!
2 weeks ago council came around replacing all street lights, and guess where the new light will be, in the middle of pavement BLOCKING neighbours getting onto the pavement to park:) We have had the last laugh that's justice!!
Good luck Pinkprincess, I am sure your council will help out, keep us informed.Love generously, praise loudly, live fully

My husband has a blue badge and we live on a hill. We requested a disabled parking space (and were granted one) because if DH can't park outside the house, some days he can't walk up the hill from wherever he has parked to the house! The process was quite formal and he was interviewed in order for the space to be granted - simply holding a blue badge and being on the highest rate of mobility was not enough. But the assessor, when he came, was extremely sympathetic and helpful once he realised that this was a 'genuine case'.
'Our' space is for the use of any blue badge holder. However, I know that some other local authorities designate spaces for a specific badge holder - this varies from area to area.
If other, non-blue-badge holding people park in the space, they can (and often do) get a ticket. Tickets can be issued even if people park just partially into the space (although this is not done as reliably, round here).
Good luck with your council, Pinkprincess.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
Councils can provide a designated bay (after agreement from an Occupational Therapist).
It's free, but takes about a year to assess and to be done.
However, these are non-enforceable and anyone with a blue badge can use them.
They won't do enforceable bays in these circumstances (so I was informed).
I also found that non-disabled neighbours and vistors used them, but when I tried to take action, I was told by the council and the police that they wouldn't get involved.
In fact, it was a complete waste of time.
It may depend on the council though - this was Greenwich Council in London.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0
