Blue Badge and Private Parking

Hi, I was after a little bit of advice.
I receive the higher rate mobility of DLA and have a blue mobility badge for our car.
We live in a small cul de sac and parking is a nightmare. There is only room for 5 cars between 10 houses and some neighbours have 2 cars each.
Some days we have to park two streets away because there is no parking and the surrounding road is full.
When we moved here a neighbour told me that parking was a mess and that they all have their own places to park so I dont really want to ask people to move the cars.
Do you have any ideas on what I could do ?
Thanks
UPDATE :
Sorry for bouncing this old post but I have more questions.
I wrote to the council to ask about disabled pay or removing some grass verges, they said they needed to come and view the parking issues for themselves.
They have been and I have received an email from them saying the following:
""...I have conducted further investigation and regret to inform you that due to the layout of the road it would not be feasible to situate a disabled parking bay outside of your property. According to Government legislation in the form of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (2002) an advisory on-street disabled bay should be 6.6m long by 2.7m wide. Although we do accept exceptions e.g. for terrace properies, we cannot allow for the bay to encroach onto the front of neighbouring properties which would be case if a bay was to be installed outside of your property..."
Does anyone have any advice as what I can do next ?
Thanks PPx

I dont see that there is much that you can do or be done to be honest.
Have you maybe spoken to the local council to see if you can have a disabled space painted outside your house - not sure whether or not this can be done?
Is there anything on the deeds etc with regards to parking? Do none of the houses have driveways?Weight Loss - 102lb0 -
Hi Princess
Does each house have an allotted space? If your neighbours are using 2 spaces and leaving some people to park 1 car streets away, then that seems unfair. Are they aware of your disability? If so, then they are clearly too selfish to be reasonable and fair.
I would suggest that you do what hjb says and enquire at the council. They can paint white lines across disabled driveways, so there may be something they can do in your case.
Failing all else, is it possible to create a driveway from your front garden if you have one?0 -
2 houses have drives but they have more than one car.
They are all private rented houses from the Council so I have never seen any deeds.
The cul de sac behind ours there is a disable parking spot so i'm thinking that has been put there for a neighbour. I wonder if the council will do one for me. I just feel a bit arkward having just moved here and then asking people for a car parking spacePlease remember to say Thank You if I help you0 -
I can understand what you mean about being new etc but you have to look after your health and if that means parking nearer your house then so be it. After the new year get in touch with your council and see what they say.Weight Loss - 102lb0

No one is aware of my disability. When we first moved in, we spoke to the neighbours about the parking and they said they have done petitions for the council to get more spaces as there is a grass verge in the cul de sac which could be used for parking but they said no.Please remember to say Thank You if I help you0 -
Hi Princess
Being new to the area doesn't mean that you have any more or less rights to parking, but being disabled SHOULD mean that you are given some priority, even if only from courtesy. To be fair to your neighbours, if they don't know that you have a blue badge then they haven't had chance to be reasonable. It does seem grossly out of order that the 2 that have drives also use nearby spaces (if they do).
I would suggest as hjb that you contact the council, particularly as they are also your landlord.
In my experience, parking spaces can be a huge source of contention, so I think it's important that you sort this out.
Good luck.0 -
As far as I am aware as we have a blue badge but rarely us eit (its daughters) you can request the council to allocate space near your property, but it might be different on other councils are subject to the area.
This is what my council says it could be different in your area
Designated parking bay areas may be provided for registered disabled drivers (i.e. blue badge holders). These may be on-street parking bays outside the residents home where parking difficulties are experienced or marked bays within residential car parks.0 -

Do you think it would require approval from the other neighbours before they did anything ?Please remember to say Thank You if I help you0 -
It may be that the council will have to write to the local residents to say that they are doing it (that is if they are willing to do it in the first place).
Hope the council is able to do something for youWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
hi. as far as I know, no neighbour approval is required, but if a disabled bay is provided it can be used by anyone with a blue badge, not only the person requesting it, so by rights you are entitled to park in the existing disabled space. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about this.0
