What about the people who aren't alcoholics who order the book for someone else ? Should they be banned from discounted alcohol ? Your reaction is way OTT ! How are the book company supposed to know the drinking habits of their customers ?0

I'm posting this for a friend as he doesn't know what to do and is very angry (which is an understatement).
His wife ordered from an online store a copy of Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book.
Clearly I don't need to go into the reasons why she ordered this.
My mate took the package in and was horrified when he opened it to find that on top of the book was a voucher for £X off wine!
He was on the phone to the supplier within minutes, the persons he spoke to had to pass it up the chain and next day he had an answer that it was an automatic system and everything they sent got the same marketing stuff and that's the way they do it...
Understandably not happy he went up the chain himself and had an email basicly saying sorry and here 15 quid!
They seem totally unaware of the potential harm this could have caused and don't seem at all bothered.
I've suggested that he contacts AA, his local TV and newspapers and gets them as much bad PR as possible.
Any thoughts guys?
To answer your question "what would you do?", I would tell my friend to get some perspective and start to take responsibility for his own actions.
As for your other question "any thoughts?", yes, you are both being totally ridiculous in the amount of offence you have taken to this non issue. The store have humoured your delicate sensibilities so move on.0 -
Wow. I'm starting to wonder if I should've been offended when I ordered a collection of stories where the main protagonists were all deaf, and received a couple of quid to spend in the Amazon Mp3 section 'til the end of the line0

Quite frankly i would have creased myself laughing, but then that's the sense of humour i have.0 -
At the risk of name calling, I bet this was Amazon. Every purchase nowadays has either a wine offer or an advert for prime steak.0

oh yeah, really bad PR.
Order a copy of the Alcohol Anonymous' Big Book from Amazon and you get a voucher for £x off wine. Then if you phone up and complain you get £15.
Not exactly bad PR is it, it's a nice bit of advertising for them.0 -
Two things:
1)when ive got those vouchers, they are a rip off anyway. Somthing like "spend £50 and get £x off" Normally with some company ive never heard of,
2)I have had a voucher like this in with kids books before. I understand its automatied so i dont mind. Its not going to in courage a 6 year old.
Im assuming this company get x amount to stick these leaflets in. I would have emailed them, saying maybe they should be more sensitive but to be offered £15 isnt bad at all .
Hope your friend gets better, good luck0 -

If I do that too, does that mean your comments become one of the numpty ones...
Think it was Amazon by the way.
PS the OP's gone quiet - either realised how ridiculous they're being, or bored and wanted to wind us up?0
