i am new to these forums and to money saving expert.
i have just obtained a shell loyalty card and one of its options is air miles. i have looked at the air miles site and i am wondering are air miles worth collecting or is money of vouchers the more valuable option. i would be interested in hearing from anyone who collects air miles and if it is a good option. as a newbie i am sorry if this post is in the wrong section

Can you fly from LHR, LGW or LCY?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

LGW is my airport of choice0

Airmiles only really come into their own if you spend a lot of money, however you can help bolster your balance by converting clubcard points to airmiles along with getting certain c/cards which gain airmiles too.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0

There is a fair amount of choice from LGW, JERsey is 750 miles. But if you prefer to pay for cheap flights on easyJet, airmiles may not be worth bothering with.
I agree with phatbear, you have to spend a fair bit.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
And now its time for some maths, which for the record the OP could have done themselves but hey ho!!
Ignoring any special promotions or extra points you could possibly get
20 litres of fuel = 1 airmile
20 litres of fuel cost approx £26
if you wanted to go to jersey, which is pretty much the shortest flight you can take
you would need 20ltrs x 750 = 15000ltrs of fuel so approx £19500 of fuel, based on £1.30 per ltr
My car does approx 50miles to the gallon so assuming you did the same you would need to drive 165198 miles, which is just under 7 times around the circumference of the earth
i think!Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Yes i could have done the maths myself . Perhaps someone who collects air miles migh like to join in but without the sarcasm0 -
My post wasnt sarcastic just factual.
So what other info do you require?Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
Financially you'd probably do just as well taking the money off fuel option. I chose airmiles as it's an easy way to keep my airmiles account active.0

I do collect Airmiles, which I do through E-rewards, Tesco and Shell, also if you do any online shopping if you go through the link on their website you can earn miles on the goods through other retailers. I find it worth it, as I now have enough for me and Hubby's flights to Rome - miles that i've earned on things I was buying anyway. They take a while to build up, but it's a nice freebie when they do :-)Lloyds TSB Personal Loan £17,000 £961.45 £0 :j
Barclaycard £4,897.38 £3359.29
Virginmoney £3,000 £2299.00 :eek:0 -
We collect airmiles on our credit card and also shop online via the airmiles website to get points. You can spend airmiles on things other than flights, we've not yet used them for flights but have booked hotels with them which means cheap breaks away!fran-o0
