Hi I was just wondering what to do with all the bits of wax left after burning candles? Sometimes there is quite a lot left over and it seems a shame to throw it away.

I know you can make new candles from it but how?

Where do I get the wick holder things from?

    How do you melt it?

And how do you keep the wick from falling over when your making them?

Sorry for all the questions but I figured someone here must know

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi hollyh,

We have a recent thread on making candles that might help so I've merged your thread with it as it helps to keep the suggestions together.

This older thread might help too: Candle Wicks........

Go for it. I got a gel candle set for xmas last year and that was really simple to do. I also save all the remnants of wax from my candles and remould a candle fro then (using wicks from ebay). it means i dont waste a bit and because i use a rayburn as a cooker its not as though i am putting on heat especially to do it.
I will definatley ask for more gel candle sets next year as the candles i have made are gorgeous, almost too nice to burn.

now that dds are older, I light candles in the evenings - and my dad makes the remnants into new ones. I love lighting the candles as it's so calming.

i used to make them, i was given a gel candle making kit about 5 years ago. it was fantastic. i would go down to the beach and collect pretty little shell. wash them , and put them in the bottom of the glass before pouring in the gel wax. only prob was i could never get the wick straight even tho followed instructions. also with gell candles i found that i could melt them down again and make a different one and i would put in little pebbles or i could add some glitter. i don't think i burnt them tho. as i was so proud of them i just kept them on shelf looking pretty

If it's free then go for it, I wouldn't bother buying a kit though as they have so many nice ones in Poundland it would work out more expensive to buy a kit.

Sometimes jar candles burn down but leave loads of wax in the jar.I thought if I could buy a few wicks seperately (theyre usually a metal disc with the wick through the middle) i could make another candle.CAn you buy them?
